Building; Mud Patrol

This was a very constructive day at my workbench. Did a lot and solved a lot.
For starters i got the metal i designed to build version 2. Sanded it so i can spray it more easy.

Sanded all parts.

Started putting all together.

Also here are my drive shafts in comparance to normal ax-10's

And thats it for today..

This is a very cool concept. I like were your going with this, I have few suggestions, but unless you ask, I 'll keep them to my self."thumbsup" Any how I cant wait to see how it turns out.

@Stelerzman, the chassis is about 2 inch shorter than the proto-version. This one will not need the extra extra long driveshaft, will be more stable, and looks better in scale;-). Still need a very long driveshaft in comparence to an ax-10 shaft.

I choose for a long driveshaft coz it is easier to make. The 2 tranny solution was to large a build up front. Still works when u have a large type of rig.. maybe gonna use that in another build.."thumbsup"

And now, with everything put together you can see where im going. Chassis, pilot seat with driver, and cover for the battery is in place.

Battery cover in place. On top of wich the receiver and esc will be.

The only driver with enough skillz to drive this thing! Had to amputate his lower legs and feet though:flipoff:.

Close up. Willy inside. And with the police bar on the roof it will always have a clear way to drive to!

Testing with all the parts went very well. All the aluminium links were on the spot. Just fitted like a glove. And with that in mind a started spraying the parts. In the time the paint was drying i was taking care of my favoured driver. And behold:
WILD WILLY, my style;-)

oh, before i forget, i made the drawings for the hood or front cover. This will be on display next time..

Sweet ride. Ive been wanting to build something like this since I got my first crawler. "thumbsup"

The original Mud Patrol 1:1 chassis lives in Appalachia, VA. I'll get pics this weekend.

Please post m8. can't wait to see m!

@Hacksaw707; what kind of ideas do u have? If it improves the vehicle i wanna know man "thumbsup"

@Krawler; sweet ride! i need to build an onroadd car sometime..

Looking great man!!! How long is your longest driveshaft gonna be? Is it gonna have any wobble being that long?

All in all, its looking really awesome! And you have by far the best driver for it! He looks like he belongs there....

Here are some measurements people eventually always wanna know.

Total length: 22.83 inch / 58 cm
Width: 10.04 inch / 25.5 cm
Height: 7.09 inch / 18 cm
Wheelbase: 18.5 inch / 47cm
Rear driveshaft: 5.31 inch /13.5 cm
Front driveshaft: 8.86 inch / 22.5 cm

More to come later..

Can you double check the driveshaft lengths, I think F/R measurments got reversed.:mrgreen:
Another question, how much does she weigh?
When will we see video of MP slinging mud?

@Dasbeermeister,
thats a damn shame! I realy would like to see some pictures of that blast from the past.

@RMK, I tried to get the shaft as straight as possible and i think its ok. Will see when it hits the sand or mud :ror:

@Stelerzman
You were right. i had it mixed up but fixed it in the post. The weight of the car is not yet known.
Testdrives will be very soon, and offcourse i will make some video of it 8)

I had also a bit of work done today. To be honoust, its nearly done. These pictures are from this afternoon. The car has been put together again. Willy found his seat and the seat is back on the chassis where it belongs;-).
Also gathered the electronics, CC Mamba Max with a 5700kv motor, and put the esc on the middle cover. Infront of the esc is the receiver. Little detail, 1980's Orange springs i found on ebay"thumbsup"

Last but not least;
I even had time to get my hands dirty on the hood, as you can see it's quite in line of the other lexan body. Made of 0.5mm aluminium.
First pictures you see the proto-hood for measuring and the second picture shows how it finally was made. Small in the front and wide at the window.

The paint on the last parts are drying at this moment. Hopefully i get it running tomorrow afternoon for a nice test run in the sand-dunes. We have a beautifull day coming tomorrow.8)

Anyway, stay tuned and you will see a vid of the test run :ror:. I hope it stays together though :roll::shock:.
