Dhawk aluminum front bulkhead!!

Mine is going strong with MANY 6s packs through it. I use Boca HD chromoly bearings on my Yeti XL. Ive had Boca bearings in a Maxx for three years and they are still gong strong. I would clean the bulk up nice and put it all back together and see if you have play. If you do then shell out another $68 and get a new bulk.

Yeah that's what I'll do and finally will get some real high quality bearings, the boca yellow sealed ceramics look good are they the ones you mean? Don't know why I didn't invest in high quality bearings sooner!

No, I run the green sealed/orange sealed bearings. Ceramics are overkill and I only use them in places that see high RPMs and heat. Like Nitro engines & clutch bells and in Brushless motors.

I second the Boca bearings. I run them in my diffs, drive shafts and transmission. Then run Fast Eddy's everywhere else. The Boca's are expensive but well worth it.

Cool. You'll like it. You going to put the new bevel gears in it? You mind as well get a Vanquish rear too while your at it. Amain has them and you can get $15 off with the 151516 code. Not that I'm trying to get you to spend $ or anything.

Steve, you'll like the Dhawk bulkhead. It's a quality piece. I just ordered 2 sets of the new bevel gears. I heard that they are quieter than the originals, so I'm gong to put them in front and back. Not that expect the YXL to be silent, but I would like to bash near a cemetery and not fear waking the dead.

If only the Dhawk axle adapters would fit the vanquish rear, I would order one from Amain now.

I wouldn't let that stop you, I would rather run the vanquish housing then lockouts. Im sure you can modify the lockouts to fit vanquish housing.

I think I will hold off for now. Almost a year on the stock gears in the rear and they look new. Front is a different story but I am only on my second set in the front in almost a year so not to unhappy. The slop in the front diff housing where the diff saddles is a joke though.

Are you all talking about the: AX31339
Heavy Duty Bevel Gear Set or AX31053
Machined Bevel Gear Set - 32T/11T set? Mine blew yesterday.

He is talking about AX31339, I have two sets on my desk right now, I'm going to wait for a problem to arise before I install mine however..

Same here. I think I am going to hold off on the Vanquish $$$$ housing as the original rear gears have almost a year on em and still look new. Front gears is a different story. yes the 31339 gear sets.

I'm putting the 31339 gears in the front and back this weekend. Not much wear on the current gears, but they'll be the back ups. I want to see how the new gears perform. I'm not expecting much, but I'm bored.

Not sure what everyone else's experiences have been with the dhawk bulkhead. Mine has held up really well. But yesterday my front left output shaft bearing blew and the diff cup was wobbling inside the casing and scraped up the inside of the bulkhead and broke up the diff cup. I think it's to be expected. I wonder if a new bearing and diff cup will work OK as is or I should get another bulkhead. Any suggestions? Good news is the ring and pinion are in tact and don't look damaged at all.

So it turns out that the Dhawk bulkhead was ruined when the bearing blew out and I continued running it for that minute or so. I should have stopped when I heard a weird noise. Basically the bearing will not sit flush now in the bulkhead anymore and there is binding when I put it back together. If you've invested in this dhawk piece I highly recommend very high quality bearings up front to avoid ruining a $70 bulkhead!

Instead of ordering a new dhawk I decided to try the new helical cut gears with the old $7 bulkhead and boca bearings to see how that goes.

That sucks about the bulkhead. I was thinking about using the cheap bulkhead with better bearings also. Mine cracked and the pinion pulled through the case after my bearing went. I'm not sure if some hard landings did it or what. I'm running 4s only and have had maybe 6 packs through it. Not sure what to do.

Yeah I've only had the diff bearings and rear pinion bearing (outward facing) blow out so far in my too many to count 6S and 4S packs through it over the last year. The VP alum rear axle comes with a larger rear pinion bearing so I'm not worried about that one now. So to avoid spending so much money I'm only getting the front diff and pinion and rear diff bearings boca green. They're about $4-$5 a piece I think.

Sounds good. I am trying to get my front end bullet proof. Boca green in diffs with the AX31339 gear set should be a good start. My front case is broke so I guess I may go with the Dhawk.
