Lastly,... I got the tie rods all done and I mounted my upper link mount. On the upper link mount I was able to take my 2.2 version, mirror it and make the block that attaches to the case just a bit narrower. I am pretty happy to be able to have all the adjustment my 2.2 has on the outside of the case. It has proved to be a valuable tool on the 2.2.

Is it the angle the picture is taken at or is that link mount not in the center of the axle? If so will you need to add a spacer to the long side or make a thicker case block to center it up?
 
Nice build Erik... it would look cool to have two 7980's mounted to one side of the axle, looks like there might be room:mrgreen:

Definitely enough for two side by side. I am hoping I dont need them. I am really counting on a lighter rig too.

Ugh! On the hardest part. Working on links and then onto shock mounts. Should be all down hill after that though.

Its centered. I think its hard to see though because that short side is so heavily clustered up right now. Might even be easier to see once I mount the servo on that long side.
 
I got a weight on the chassis. Seems like its a decent weight. I would eventually like to get into carbon fiber and cut an ounce or two. Can anybody tell me how this weight would compare to an "average" chassis?

Your build keeps getting better with every update.:twisted: I really like the looks of the turned down shocks and upper link mounts.

Also; I think that's a very good weight for your chassis.

Are you going to mount your electronics on your axles? Would help balance your side to side bias.

After driving 53's in St George I thought it was the most fun class by far. I am excited to see what I think of it after driving it for a bit. I hope it does not turn out to be a paper weight like my mini :mrgreen: I actually like driving the mini but the 2.2 takes all my bashing time.

Electronics on the axles is in the plans. We will have to see how it pans out.

Doing link/shock mounts now. Looks like it will have compromise to it which I really dont like. Seems like all the super builds have some sort of compromise when it comes to fitting stuff. Funny because you would think with a car this big everything would fit right where you want it.

Can't wait to drive it in arizona:twisted:

I cant believe its been almost week and I have not gotten much done on this thing. Things have been absolutely crazy around here. I have been pushing through long work days and I have been trying to reward myself a tiny bit every day by building at least one piece for this car.

I got the links all done and the shocks mounted. I am not going to lie, it was pretty tough to get everything to fit. Everything seems to be where I would like it to start, the car seems tall to me though. I may have to redo the chassis to bring it down, not sure. It will sit approx 3.5" full stuff and gangsta tall at full droop. Even though that seems tall it looks to be somewhat normal by doing a search on here and others measurements? I dont know if its me or if I am just not used to this scale.

The front links were interesting. I think doing two short aggressive bends may have actually made the link stronger by effectively shortening the link into smaller sections. It feels really, really rigid. The rears are still pushing it and I dont know if thats the length or because I did a long swooping bend back there. I am pretty happy with them though and I am glad to have these two items out of the way. Should be smooth sailing from here out, I hope.

I was really, really confused on where to put the shocks. No matter what it seemed I could not find the clearance and even if I did, I didnt know where to start designing them so, I made these overly complicated mounts with too many holes. I put those on, found where I wanted my shocks and I was able to reduce them into a usable mount.

Is there room within the class specs (re body/chassis length) to use some LCC style upper shock mounts and fix your angle? Running the shocks more upright would give you more steering room too.

They need to clearance the motors and I dont know if you can tell in the pics but, they need to go over the top. The tire will just shave the end bell on the motors. Links below the motor, shocks on top.

I could use LCC shock arms, I dont know that I would like the way it looks on this though? I would rather just draw up a new chassis and cut it out. I have the shocks really close to the same angle I have on my Berg. Hopefully that is where I will like them on this too? Oh, as described above, obviously no shock to tire clearance issues. :mrgreen:
