Downhill Mountain Biking in Park City!

I am not as crazy as the guys in the video. It takes a bit for me to get my "jumping balls" back, the more you bike, the more natural it will feel. The more you build up your muscles in your forearms will help you too.

It sounds funny but I used to practice bunny hopping over empty cardboard soda cases. A few years back I used to be able to roll up and clear 15 or so inchs…..pretty good for a bike that weighed 55lbs! :shock:My new Trek weighs about 25ish. Just start small and work up slowly."thumbsup"

But I got to say, DHing is a blast!:)

Park City is awesome, winter or summer it's always fun up there. I know you have agenda going on up there, but if you have time, you guys should check out the "alpine slide" at park city mountain resort. That things sooooooo much fun.

Actually, we'll be there 3.5 days and only have plans on 2 of them! The Alpine Slide looks like it could be fun, but their promotional video makes the thing look like it barely moves. I assume it's a lot faster than that?

We're also planning hitting the beer festival on that Saturday. :)

Stay back on the bike and get the seat as low as possible. You don't want to whack your balls on the seat if you're going over the bars.
2 fingers on the front brake, 1 on the rear with even pressure so the bike doesn't skid or lock up the front tire.

If the rental shop has the lycra shorts with the hip pads, buy them. Those are worth every penny"thumbsup" I can't count the number of times I've slid to a stop on my ass, and the pads take all the abuse.

I wish I had time to get the dh bike out this year, I'm only 25 or so miles from Sol Vista and Winter Park but work has been killer this year.:x

Another question for y'all... Camelback or water bottles? Or like MTBing is it just personal preference? I was leaning toward leaving the Camelback at home and just using water bottles.

i liked camelbak mule for a few reasons.

good place to keep the bong.
good place to keep the bong water.
ok i am joking about those two

excellent spinal buffer for back bone impacts.
place for patches and co2 for pinch flats.
it's always fun to get soaked when the mouthpiece falls off.

if you plan on riding just chill, then i would say fill the bladder half way so your not toting around tons of extra weight. if your going to be making a bunch of straight runs then just leave the extra baggage in a locker or in your ride.

what goes up, comes down.

"thumbsup"

I gotcha. Well, I suspect we'll be stopping at the bottom for water pretty frequently and since we need to pack very light for the plane ride up there, I think I'll just plan on a water bottle. Thanks for the info!

Here is a "local" tip on the alpine slide!!!

It is fast as hell if you have the room.
I typically end up catching the person in front of me when I ride it.
When they tell you it's ok to take off, tell them you want to wait, because you plan on going fast.
And careful on the turns! Unless it's a high banked turn, If you lean into them you will shoot off the track. I have found it best to keep your body vertical. Also there are 2 dropoffs midway in the track. If your going fast enough you will get crazy air off them!!!
I have crashed a number of times on the slide because I was going probably way to fast for what it's designed for.
The last time i rode it I actually came around the last corner(blind corner) at full speed and found the person in front of me stopped dead on the track.
I railed on the brakes, but it didn't help.
She got a turbo boost, and I ended up in the bushes.

Now that's good to hear! The promo video made it look boring! I think we'll have to give it a shot. Thanks for the heads up... :)

Crunky already gave some good advice on the camelbak vs. water bottle. I'd agree and also say no water bottle for offroad stuff. Too easy to get dust and mud and who knows what else on bottles. Easier to lose on a crash as well. Camelbaks are where its at for sure. Like all backpacks, pick something within reason. You don't want to haul around 50L of water on your back if 2L will do just fine "thumbsup"

I've already got a 2L Camelbak, I think it's a Mule, but I bought it years ago and don't recall. Anyway, I just spoke to my buddy whom I'm going with and he suggested to bring it so I guess now I'm bringing it! :ror:
