EP's DNA SSS Axial

I was wondering if you could get me an eye to eye measurement of your lowers? I ordered my Triple S from RCHQ but they said only uppers are supplied, and I want to see if I have enough delrin rod on hand to make the lowers.

i dunno what's killing me more, waiting for this thing, or waiting for my Eritex dig to come in....

Nice work bro...

After this weekend, Ive decided that dig is an interesting conundrum.

I feel it is a necessity in a few situations, but I watched people all weekend miss easy lines, because they were over thinking and using the dig when it wasn't needed...

I agree. And many times throughout the day I see people digging when four wheel drive will get you right through it. My biggest issue seems to be very sharp corners, but no place to really take a reverse if I have to. Sometimes taking them backwards helps, sometimes you can't get to it backwards and then you're screwed.

A conundrum indeed. :|

I agree..

Sharp corners are about it.

Everywhere else, taking a second to collect your thoughts will usually help you more, than haing an extra button to mess with.

That's why I hate winching with scalers too.. That's about the point I get all messed up

Point Series event yesterday. Hard courses, had to plan far ahead and really drive well, especially without dig. It was a good challenge. The tire carry torsional action really played in my favor a couple times keeping me out of tire sucking holes. And it's so light, it like tip toes across the rocks. It really is something else.

So I made a big mistake on a course, and ended up tied for second place. Had I not made that mistake, I'd still be in second place, but not tied, so no real harm I guess.

It went up this. Pretty steep. :D

Thanks for the picture Bob.

I just ordered one of these bad boys up. I've been following and enjoying your build for a while and figured that the chassis was a safe bet since you're still using it and succeeding with the setup"thumbsup"

I like that most recent picture. I assumed these would be monsters at the vertical climb!

Couple questions for you:

Are you still running the 454 with a 93 spur gear or did you put in the 500? I'm considering the 500 just because I seem to overheat my motors easily. (heavy throttle finger)

What driveshafts are you using that clear under the huge 93t spur... I have Maxx shafts currently and they had to be trimmed just to fit under the 87t spur.

Anyway, thanks for the info!

From the looks of things, it appears that he is running maxx shafts with CDW 6mm outputs. Those outputs has a longer shaft that push the yoke out past the spur for clearance.

Went to the 500, it's a little bigger, and a little more powerful. Little slower, but still 2000 KV so it's still quick.

I went down to a 87 again because the gear rubbed on the roof all the time. Chewed up the teeth.

ScorKing is right, Maxx shafts and CDW outputs. No other alternative that I'm aware of. But you don't need a gear that big.

So your GC is about 2 3/8" right? How does it handle breakovers? I'd like one of these but courses out here are full of crazy breakovers :?

I watched the Vids and there weren't alot of big breakovers in them... what can you tell me?

Thanks!!!

Whoa! Hey there.

Actually my ground clearance is 2 ½". So a little more, and I'm running soft mushy Panthers. It handles breakovers like no other truck in this world! It's tooooootally awwwwwwwesome!

So really, it does okay, I mean yeah, it's a little lower than usual for some people, but being made of slippery ass delrin it pretty much glides over everything. Like most low trucks need, you add a good front weight bias to it and if you can fling the truck up the breakover or ledge it'll drag itself up. Driver skills yo. Granted my weight bias in the wheels is only 2 ounces more in the front than back, and my battery weighs 1.5 ounces and then there's the servo too, but when the whole thing weighs 4 pounds and 3 ounces, it doesn't take much for an effective weight balance change.

I really enjoy driving this truck, it's been a very refreshing experience for me.

And I won our Tuesday League night again with it. That's always nice. 8)

I was wondering if you are running an external BEC with your FX-R. I can't tell from the picstures. I recently ordered an FX-R and some 3s lipos for my Triple S and was wondering if I'll really need one. I was/am using a Rooster Crawler and I know the BEC seems to put out more juice than the Tekin's. What's you opionon on this?

Oh, and how far up did it get on that flood wall?

Sorry, I missed your questions...

I'm not using an external BEC on mine, but only because I'm running a 2 cell lipo. If I were using a 3 cell, I'd definitely be using a Castle BEC. The FXR needs an external BEC for sure with a 3S.

Made it all the way up the flood wall. :D

We had a comp the other day and I was kicking butt by the end of the first two courses. Only to royally screw up and throw it all away in the end and take home another second place. :ror:

I am now in possession of a new production chassis, and have that mostly together already, I'll get some pictures of that up a little later.

The front high speed gears really showed me a thing or two for once. Before I was never positive they were doing anything really. But I think I'm convinced now.

My buddy Rob took some pictures of the truck for me. Thanks Robbie. "thumbsup"

Hey EP, so what are you running now with it?
Currently I am thinking of running a CKRC 2S 1500 for the battery and a Tekin FXR with a 55T or should I go with a 45T instead. Im trying to get all the right gears and pinions set up for when I get mine in. Any help would be great. thanks

Ohh and one more thing, are you running anything special in the tranny/axles?

yo!

Electronics? Holmes Cobalt 500 motor, Tekin FXR, and a 2S Outrage 800 mah lipo.

If you buy the 55 you're gonna want the 45 no matter what. No matter how many times you tell yourself the 55 is fine, you're gonna want the 45 because every one this board has to go fast now. You're gonna wanna try it, then end up buying it anyways. So just get the 45 first.

Am I right? :D

Special. Ha.

This thing was started back when the Axials first came out, before MIP driveshafts and Axial high speed gears, so the parts list is a little different from normal.

CDW 6 mm transmission outputs
T Maxx 2.5 shafts and yokes
Wheely King 6 mm axle inputs
RS4 optional high speed heavy duty gear set in the front - 36/14
E Savage HD gear set in back - 38/13
Chromo lockers
MIP CVDs and Axial straight axles
Avid Revolution bearings

It's about perfect...
