so im wanting to step up into the lipo world. I know bassically nothing about lipo other than its way better than NiMh. I am doing my reading on it but what is everyones favorite lipo charger? Ive been a big fan of venom batteries, at least on the NiMh side of things. I see they have a pretty good looking lipo charger. What do you guys recomend?

When I upgraded I decided to pick up a Venom Pro Duo. I like the dual charging ports and the availability of charging the HV lipos. The cost was budget friendly and the compact size made it very easy to keep on the workbench. I am sure others will chime in. Hope this helps a bit.

Depends on your budget. I went from a Hitec X1 then got tired of waiting so stepped up to a iCharger 308Duo and charging at 30amps is no joke. My (2) 4S 6500mah batteries from storage take 23min at 2C. Could go higher C but nah.

Lot's of great chargers out there with some serious power.

I`ll vote for icharger also..
Years ago bought an 106B, and now as I needed little more power I got myself 308duo also 8)

True, I haven`t had any others but I have been very pleased with those so no need to change brand..

I have a few. I really like my Elangears chargers. Very easy to use and small for being AC/DC. I have the Elan R and Elan duo. I also have a Dynamite Passport Duo which is great as well, just a little big to carry around.

I have a Trackpower VR-1. Not easy to use and it sits on the shelf.

Favorite and most efficient is my Tenergy TB6B unit. It will charge lipo and nimh and nicad. It will discharge your lipos for storage. I have a 6s 5000mAh 22.2 v that is charges reliably. It come with the multi plug and balance board. I have used it for over three years and it still reliable.

I have a Hitec X4. Easy to use interface, 10 amp/channel for four lipos, and I like the app - you can easily set up each channel from your phone over wifi and keep track of the charging. Obviously not as powerful as iChargers or others with external power supply.

The Venom Pro2 has worked very well for me. Charges all nickel metal batteries and lipos. Has balance board built in for every size from 1s to 6s which is very useful if you have multiple batterys for different purpose rigs/boats/drones. Has a fast charge option as well only if you dont want to wait. I rarely use fast charge though due to not being in a rush, but its there with a charge rate up to 6 amps. The price is right too."thumbsup"

Maybe the icharger 308 duo if cost is of no concern.
And ya need to charge multiple batteries faster.

or a ThunderAC6 if yer on a budget but need a decent charger.

I always charge my LiPo's the day before I use them. So I have no need to fast charge them... ever.
Odd to me, the need to charge them in a hurry ?

In fact... I always balance charge my LiPos, every charge.
Stow them outside or in a fire resistant bag or container so ya don't burn the house down while you sleep.
Discharge to storage voltage when not being used.

Regardless, don't charge a LiPo battery at an amp rating higher then it is capable of being charged at.
Many do... and have puffed LiPo's to prove it. (of course those folk are in denial) Lol

Higher capacity (MAH) batteries and those having a higher C rating can be charged at higher amp value.
But fast charging lower capacity/C rated LiPo's at higher amps...
generally results in a shorter consumable life and fewer cycles.
Or worse.

Fact is a high amp fast charge is harder on every LiPo and will shorten it's consumable life cycles.
No biggie if ya like destruction and buying fresh batteries often

Using 5 amps to charge a Venom 3s 2200 30C LiPo could be a bad idea
resulting with the battery swelling and then bursting into a road flare.
I know... because I experience that.

I now charge my 3s 2200 30C LiPos at 2.1 amps.
Haven't puffed nor burst another since.
I could charge my 2s 5000 60c at 5a no problem
But my error of assuming all LiPo's are equal, could've ended much worse.

So be sure to charge the LiPo as recommended by the mfgr.

^ either LiPo charger will get the job done... and can be adjusted to charge at different amp ratings.
You do not need use the highest amp settings they offer.
If you do charge at higher amps... don't take yer eyes off them while they're charging !

Here's a budget safety tip I learned while watching TV and charging my LiPo's simultaneously.
A plastic zip tie secured snug around the battery will began creaking if the battery begins to swell (puff). Creating an audible warning.
Time to take it outside before things might go sour.

So it really comes down to yer budget and how much you wish to spend.

I use the budget minded HobbyPeople TAZR "smart charger". In fact I have two.
Too bad HobbyPeople went out of business.
Mine are 4 years old and have proven to be reliable/durable.

I'd probably go with a ThunderAce AC6 if I needed to replace my HP TAZR(s).
Very similar smart charger design/function. Easy to use and simple to understand.

Those whom want and can afford higher end components... pay more for their boasting privileges.

But their selection is likely mfgr'd in china too ;-)

Been using this charger for the past year. Works great and no PSU needed. Their state side customer service is also top notch. Probably had about 5 flawless rmas with my venom products, usually within a week.

I started with a Kinexsis KX80 made by Horizon, it was recommended by the LHS when I got back into the hobby about 1.5 years ago. For $50 it has all the features as the other chargers in the $80-100 range (balance, lipo discharge, etc). I am thinking about ordering a second one so I can have one in the storage box with each truck.
