First Scaler

Looks awesome! The window trim ties everything together, and the roof rack is in the perfect spot. Awesome work bud "thumbsup"

Thanks! I definitely agree. Without the trim it looked like a toy, but now it has more detail. Can't wait to go run again!

Here are some better shots outside today.
I might wait for the Pro-Line pan tray thing instead of making wheel wells...not sure yet.
It looks a lot better in person!

Looks awesome outside! What did you do for the rear body mounts?

Maybe make a set of wheel wells now, and get the pan later. Only takes 10 mins to make and they're FREE "thumbsup"

Thanks! The rear body posts are just sitting there for now. Maybe velcro like you said would be okay. I need to find stuff for the wheel wells.

The steering links help so much! Now it can actually climb and not just get pushed around by the rocks instead.

Those red links look good under there too, doesn't even look like you wheel base got messed up. Can't wait to take them out next week!

You're about to have some competition man, I just ordered my first Scaler! SCX10 dingo but it will soon have an XJ body on it.

Sweet! Do you have a 1:1 also?

:D

Debating on painting the XJ body gunmetal blue like this one or Forest green in memory of my last Jeep.

their were slight differences in the pre xj and 97+ years - ie: Side markers and blinkers, rear taillights and side trim and front windows.

Slight differences? The 97+ models are more rounded off than the 96- models and the interior is completely revamped. I do wish they made a 97+ body though, I prefer them, I am on my second 97 XJ.

I'm liking the gunmetal blue, but blue's my favorite color. I wish they made a later model XJ too! That's why I didn't paint the grill black and trimmed the front side markers. Also the taillights aren't the same, but I didn't feel like changing them. Other than that, it resembles my '99 Cherokee.

Thanks man, got a lot of blood sweat and curse words into it but have only had it 7 months. Its getting ready to get locked F/R and regeared and lifted a couple more inches. My last one got killed by a Drunk Driver.

nice build. i just got my first scaler, a scx10 dingo. i wasn't really into the crawling thing until i saw my first scaler...the dingo. ive been looking at them for months and i finally bought a roller used on another forum. since i am a complete newb to crawling, i am now researching things i can do to improve it and i stumbled across your build. like i said, nice work. i plan to use a couple of your ideas myself. i do have a question though. when you painted the wheels, how'd you do it? also when you waterproof, do you just coat only the electronics and then put the housing back together? i look forward to seeing what else you do. thanks in advance for the help.

Nice ride! I am also working on a 1:1 build up"thumbsup"

Thanks for the compliments! It's a really fun hobby! Good luck on your builds "thumbsup"

Painting the wheels was easy!

I used Krylon Fusion Satin Black. Use VERY LIGHT coats!!
Spray about 2-3 coats on the back (first!)
Then spray the front side (3-4 coats) last to give it a clean finish. Hope that helps!

RC4WD Roc Lox VS Pro-Line Super Swampers

Thinking about getting new tires soon along with a new front bumper.

Here are some comparison shots using Gimp's Roc Lox and my stock tires.
I like the detailed look of the Roc Lox and their extra height helps with ground clearance, but the smaller Flat Irons (I would buy Pro-Line Super Swampers) seem to be a better scale fit.

Let me know what you think!

Hey champ very nice just got a few questions for you...

Is that the proline body?
How does it fit length wise? did you have to mod anything?
And also I can see you trimmed abit of the rear bumper to clear the dingo bumper?

Thanks heaps

As i want that body on my dingo too"thumbsup"
