Hey guys,

With the absurdley high failure rates on xbox 360's I know at least some people on here have to be getting the red ring of death. If like me your xbox is no longer covered under warranty there is still hope!

I found this write-up on how to fix the rrod Friday morning, did it Friday night and gamed all weekend with zero crashes glitches or other not so nice things happening.

I did notice that microsoft changed the design of the heat sinks at some point, so if your heat sink for the cpu doesn't match the picture you'll need to shorten the 20mm screws by about 3/16"

Within the write-up is a link to a different giude to how to take your xbox apart.

This is very very easy to do, anyone who can navigate this board and find this thread can accomplish it.

you should still have tried ms service, it may be out of the standard warranty, but they still fixed my xbox a month ago for free and it was a launch system.

Here's the simple fix.

Call Microsoft. They will send you a box with a shipping label and everything, it's completely free. The new 360's have been fixed and don't have the red ring nearly as often.

Tried that, got a lovely note back with my xbox explaining that it was out of warranty, and they would not repair it. I'm fixing a co-worker's tonight who bought a refurb that microsoft refused to look at since it had been opened by the refurb place

I guess you don't understand how polls work...

It's an internet poll...who said they had to include their serial number and all that? Who said they actually even had to own an Xbox360 before clicking "mine failed"?

Also the law of averages states...the more you sell the more problems you will have. Both companies are over producing to meet demand...thats never good for quality.

has no one in that tutorial ever heard of hex screws?

" Just go on out to your grandpa's wood shed and get some regular ole sheet metal screws and its as easy as that!"
