Hey guys,

Here is my F-250 project. I'm building up this SCX10 II kit version to have a somewhat similar resemblance to my old Ford Diesel truck. Here is a couple pictures of my truck for reference.

I picked up the JConcepts OBS Ford body and made it fit the truck. The wheel base is slightly longer than the stock scx by a couple milimeters, so I added a few washers to the links to make it fit a little better

Here it is trimmed. Still need to shim up the front bumper in this shot.

I have a lot more pictures to add and will do that over the next day or two, but wanted to start the thread. I have a number of parts on order and it will be towing the Xtra Speed car trailer and a boat trailer I have in the works.

Thanks for looking!

I found a Duratrax paint color that was pretty close. I like the way it turned out.

The JConcepts sticker sheet had the right tailgate panel and even an American Flag to match the one on my truck

After the body was fitted, I was able to raise the bumper up (although I don't like the way I did it, will come up with something else in the future). I also added the rc4wd warn winch and Baja Designs lights

More still to come....

Love it. I've had my 97 OBS Powerstroke F-350 for 12 years now and its been a great truck. I'll have to pick up a couple of these bodies and do a tribute as well.

Thanks guys! Here is what the truck looks like in its current state.

I added some used SSD wheels I picked up on a local rc classifieds pages and built my Xtra Speed car trailer. I thought I taken a picture during the assembly, but it didn't save. I have a number of upgrades planned for the trailer, so more pictures will follow. My son really likes driving his trucks on and off the trailer.

That looks great! Are there other OBS bodies out there? I was pumped when I ran across thej concepts body!

Thanks! Tamiya has had a few OBS bodies over the years. I'd like to find a King Blackfoot hardbody for another project. They are a little narrow compared to the JConcepts, but probably more scale proportionate.

They also had the Ford Baja truck. I wouldn't mind picking one of these up, but I believe they discontinued them again. Tamiya models also took a significant price increase lately.

Since installing the Ford body, I've been trying to get the back bumper right. The XJ bumper is a little narrow, but not terrible. The problem I ran into was even on the longest setting, it didn't clear the tailgate. So as a temporary, I slid the bumper all the way in so I could still hook up the trailer.

To help fix this, I picked up the RC4wd rear bumper extension that also happens to be a winch mount and trailer hitch. You can see in this picture that it's quite a bit longer than the stock extension

The piece fits right into place, however it does not include any hardware. I figured I could just reuse the stock hardware, but I was....

You can see in this picture, the stock larger pins do not fit. Needs the next size samller. Also, it's attached to the frame with 4 screws instead of two. But these 4 screws are also one size smaller than stock. Luckily I have some extra hardware laying around to make it work. Dissapopinted this $27 part didn't include the required hardware.

The other surprise, but was kinda also expected was tha this bumper extension is so long, that I now have the opposite problem. A shelf hanging off the back of the truck. Not a big deal, will have to do some trimming around the bumper posts to make it slide in a little further.

I'll be tweaking on this constantly until its right, but that's all I had time for today. More to come....

The mailman dropped off this weekend's project. A 45t 550 motor and a 2 speed? Yes please! This truck is going to be unstoppable.

A little update on this rig. HH motor is in. Axial 2 speed gears are in. Works awesome! SSD shocks and a couple scale parts on order for next update. I need to work on the tires/foams. Took it to a local hobby shop to try their course. Wasn't getting the traction I'd like to have. I think the stock foams are too stiff.

Looks great! Have you considered a smaller tire? I think you could capture a more striking scale representation with a more proportioned tire.

Smog - Thanks! I've been looking at the Class 1 KM3s from Proline. I would like to give them a try.
Browneye - Thanks! You just reminded me that I never did post a picture of the trailer. I picked one up off Amain scratch and dent for a good deal. Here is the truck with my son hauling his Nylint truck.

If anyone has any Tan "4x4" stickers for the rear bed side, I'm looking for some to match my original truck.

I link off Facebook, so let me know if you can't see the picture above.

I cant believe I haven't posted.

Great looking truck. My favorite body style of the ages.
Well next to my 86' anyway.

Looks really good. When you lengthened the wheelbase to fit the body, what would you say the wheelbase is now? I'm curious how this body would line up on something with a 324 mm wheelbase chassis.

Nice rig and trailer look really close to you 1:1 I always love those old fords

Thank you!

Thanks! I growing up, my parents had an 86 F-250 ext cab with 460. Great old truck. Never did better than 8 mpgs, but was a great camping rig. Jconcepts makes this same body in that older front end style. Thought about picking one up as an alternate body and painting it silver and blue like that old truck. I'll see if I can still find a picture.

It's only marginally longer (maybe 0.2"). I added a couple small washers to each of the front links. I'll post a picture later.

That body looks great! I may have to pick up one of those. I love the OBS Fords.

Thanks!

Picked up two sets of the new SSD scale shocks to try out on the F250 build. They feel very smooth. Here they are next to the stock kit shocks.

Interested in those SSD's myself. My second RBK SCX10II is running the 80's. F150 body. Really like it and am considering the 90's era one for my "tow rig".

I installed the SSD shocks. I really like the finish of the shocks, but there are a few things I can't seem to get right yet. Still having difficulty getting them bled out with out having either too much rebound or an air gap at the top you can feel. I'm also not thrilled about the caps. The delrin ball that goes inside of it, is only held in by one side. The shock has way too much side to side free play at the top once installed. I put a rubber o-ring behind it to dampen the movement.

On this order I did pick up a set of front and rear hubs. I really like this added detail.

I am also working on a Proline service body. I had picked up a headache rack for it, but decided to test fit it on this body. The fitment is very close, but needs to be about a 1/2" wider. Anyone want to print me one?

FordSpeed could you please measure the length on the RC4WD REAR BUMPER EXTENSION & WINCH MOUNT from the back of it to where it meets up with the chassis?

Thank you in advance.

Neat looking build there.

Thank you! The extension measures right at 6cm (2.36") from the frame rail and stays the same width as the frame. Just a note that the extension will not accept the ball mount from the scx II kit. The square receiver is slightly smaller inner diameter. You'll have to run either the rc4wd version or modify the stock one if you plan on hooking up a trailer.

I hooked up the trailer and threw a couple rocks on it today just to try it out. Towed it around for a while and up a couple steep driveways. Did great and that Holmes Hobbies 550 motor barley got warm.

Cool, thank you Fordspeed for the fast response. Now I’ll have to see if it’s long enough for purpose.

Okay just joined here and have to say this is awesome.

I recently picked up the SCX10 II Cherokee kit and have been getting ideas to build it, looking for an OBS 1/10 body, when I came across this thread.

Sorry but I'm stealing your idea. My bad. I've got a 93' F350 diesel I've affectionately named "Big Ugly".

It was my farm truck for 10 years and earned it's title honestly. What better way to pay tribute. (Note: not at all pretty like your truck which is very nice BTW)

Thanks again for sharing your ideas here. Love the trailer with the rocks on it.

Thanks for the compliments! No need to apologize. Everyone is free to put their own creative twist on their truck. I'm just happy to be of some inspiration!

So totally awesome forum member toka100 offered to design and print a headache rack similar to the one I had on my truck. I have to say this turned out very good! I love the community here at RCCrawler and I'm very thankful for this very nice thing he did for me.
