Go fast wraith suspension - Turned build thread

HD gears finally showed up. Anybody running these on the drive side or coast side specifically?

The stock gears were straight cut, the HDs are helical, I would prefer to run them on the drive side, but if it makes no difference I won't worry about it. I will be shimming the pinion to set the backlash and end play.

i spoke with someone at Axial about it a while back, and they said it ultimately doesn't matter. if you can, i'd still try to run them on the drive side.

Yeah running the gears on the drive side will be your best bet, just curious, what kind of shims are you going to use? I've thought about shimming the gears in my wraith so it doesn't screw up the diffs with all of the power it has.

Tamiya 53587 is an assortment of 5mm shims.

Sounds like I'll run it on the drive side and flip the rear as well. Guess I won't get my daily lunch time session in :lmao::lmao:

Got it wrapped up. Good thing those shims are cheap, I didn't use a single one. Held up just fine for the 5 minutes I beat on it.

Might as well throw the last spare axial locker in there to last the weekend.....

Back in action. Hot racing locker was the first to come back in stock on RPP.

I also noticed the locker side of the front shafts were extremely worn, from being beaten around in the broken lockers. New set of universals was also installed.

These lockers have no set screws and the shafts slide in fairly easily. They are far from "no slop." We will see how that works out in the long run.

I just purchased my first house, and have 1.5 acres of pasture to play with. As soon as I can get one of the local guys to drop the hay, I'll be building a track. Stay tuned for mini excavator action pics :flipoff:

Finally stripped the rear gears. HD set installed and shimmed. RC drag racing at the shop tonight, punch and timing turned up, pics to follow

Upon closer inspection.... The front case of the Savox is split in half. Hope it holds through a few drag pulls

Axles held up for the first time.

ESC burned to the ground. 2s max actually meant 2s max ;-)

New ESC on board. Set the throttle trim at light throttle to be very gradual. The cogging is almost completely gone. 8)

Now it's time to build a track.

I like it a lot, that's why it gets beat on.

Ordered the Savox case halves, I didn't notice I had split it until the orange sticker flew off, mid donut :flipoff:

I really like your own approach to making this rig a style of your own but still be U4 themed.

Me too!

I can't find any other pistons specifically for these shocks. If some other pistons work, I would love to know which ones.

Wraith KIT comes with two stage pistons...don't have the part number at the moment, check Axial's site for Wraith KIT manual in pdf form and order the pistons! "thumbsup"

RPM also sells two stage shock piston setups in soft, medium and firm damping.

Stripped a double clamp servo horn, blew the front ring gear and wore a hole through the front diff housing at lunch. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

HD gear set ordered, servo horn picked up and not worrying about the housing for now. The servo horn was loose on the servo splines and clamped tight to the center bolt. I will drill out the center hole to not contact the bolt before the splines are clamped properly.

Sweet, Racer's Edge or Axial is good brand clamping servo horn.

Maybe just put some epoxy or shoe goo on the housing to keep dirt out

Yes or new housing is only $9 and buy VP aluminum diff cover will help prolong housing life too. "thumbsup" I have this one and it takes a beating!

Axial Wraith Differential Cover Grey - Vanquish Products

My old servo horn was a china GH double clamp copy. The metal was noticeably soft, and with the clamp bolts loose the horn would slide on and off the splines easily. The new part in the gold axial horn. With the clamp screws completely out I couldn't even press it on to the splines. Much better. I'm confident this one will last a while.

I have HR Hot Racing spools and they've been good in SCX (backup set for Wraith in my parts box) the axles were light press fit in mine. Locked UpRC spool is supposed to be very tight fit and high quality. I've bought scale hardware from him and it's very high quality, therefore I easily recommend any of his parts. Great customer service and very high quality! "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup"

Locked up RC - FI Spool

I love the way you mod your Wraith one thing at a time as it breaks! Slash body looks awesome and I dig your driving style!!! :lmao:"thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup" More carnage and upgrade pics please.

I have both the lockeduprc.com spool and hot racing and there's a little slop in both. Hr spool lasted a year under abuse of 6s power. I'd imagine locked will last just as long.

Love your build.

Great thread. Mine is setup for strictly slow crawling but I've always though about gettin another designed for speed.

But....then I see all your carnage and can just imagine the problems. I know very little about Battery cars. I'll stick with the nitros for go-fast
