GT3B Hack Question and Answer Thread

Cool I have not read up on this thread in a while. Your always great to work with, thanks bud!

Shit now im going to have to remember how to reprogram it. lol

hello everyone

i have a quick question:

i'm building a custom Summit from scratch and i don't have a tx\rx yet.
is a modded GT3B a good alternative to the 4ch traxxas link?

I have a hacked GT3B I run my super MT and AX10 bodyless on and I love it. I read something about a future plan for a course timer intigration. Is that option still in the works?

My only concern is that the 4th ch on the 2.4 tq's are actually ch4 and ch5

It should be possible to run summit diff lockers this way but i'll need to research it abit before i can give a definitive answer...if you arn't running a summit, then yes its a great alternative.

i remember a guy the traxxas forums that had a 2ch TQ link with the other 3 channels activated in the config. menu (if you can call blinking led's a menu :lmao:)

he added the switches and could control all 5 channels separately!

from reading the summit manual it seems that the 3 position switch on the remote controls both channels 4 and 5.

if the hacked GT3B channels can be configured in 2 position mode then i think it will work!

Picked up a Berg this Sunday from a local guy and set up the punk dig with the GT3B, works awesome!
I Just did what Getbent did and set CH3 trim switch to select front/4wd/rear and set the D/R switch to momentary. though i might swap those around as i get used to a MOA setup
eventually I will sell the punk dig and pick up a 2nd FXR and use the MOA mix .
On a side note when setting up the punk dig I had a brain fart and selected the DIG mix and that made the forward most axle in the direction i was moving lock up anytime i went over half throttle. removed the Dig mix and all was good "thumbsup"

The SCX scaler is setup with the winch on the D/R switch and the CH3 button shifts the summit trans. eventually I will use the top Steering or throttle trim buttons for lights

you will be pleased with the mixing once you get another fxr. on my xr10 im running 2 sidewinders with it, using all 6 channels on my tamiya big rig (th. st, shift, lights, hi/low beams, 5th wheel lock), and on a toy converted cat excavator im using the dig mixing for steering and 3 channels for the other functions. ive been very pleased with this radio since the day it was successfully hacked with the new firmware, and just yesterday i finally updated to the newest firmware.

I have 2 micro sidewinders I am tempted to throw on it but they are for my micro losi's :ror:. does the excavator use 2 ESCs for steering the treads?

yep one esc for each side. currently there are 4 escs in it and one ht servo for house swing

Lipo mod

Probably not...i don't really want to be shipping lipos.

I plan on ordering a gt3b from you with all the options, is there a way for you to walk me through that mod, because I really hate replacing 8 AA batteries everytime!"thumbsup"

it should be pretty easy, I think in this thread he shows how to connect the 3 wires for the new voltage regulator. then all you need to do is wire up a new connector on the radio for the Lipo.
or you could always order the rechargeable NiMH batteries HobbyPartz recommends with the GT3B.

these are not standard AA rechargeable but they are close in size and right voltage.they are a little thicker than AA's but they squeeze in there. just make sure to install the outer batteries first then the middle. Im not sure how long Ive had this radio already but I use it for all my RCs now and even after always leaving it on and full days of use I have only charged these batteries about twice. they are extremely low discharge so the charge stays during storage. I have used similar AAA's in universal remote controls because they seem to last forever. I kind of prefer the AA rather than a "special" battery in things like RC TX's and cameras just because if for some reason they DO die its much easier to find a backup.. and quick AA replacements are cheap.

Well after reading all 32 pages of this thread I couldn't resist. Just placed an order with you then losikid. :)

Can't wait to receive it. My VR3T heap of crap went up in smoke yesterday so I'm radio-less at the moment.

Well, you have to have the vr mod...

But to add a lipo, all you do is split the case in two, cut the power wires at the batt tray, and solder on a deans....get rid of the battery tray. Make sure to chance low power alarm to 6.5 volts (lowest the regulator can do)
