GT3B Hack Question and Answer Thread

First, make sure ABS is turned off

If that don't work

Reflash the gt3b with 0.4.1

GT3B Firmware Archive - OverkillRC

All model memory should be saved

If this still don't work, flash 0.2.0, model memory will be erased, if it still does it flash 0.4.1 and try it on another esc.

There was similar problems with some el cheap hobbywing esc's on another gt3b, reflashing the firmware fixed the issue.

On the steering, yes probably since you hooked straight up to the lipo, when you pull the throttle it drops the voltage so the servo moves. Thats my best guess.

Also you can try making sure your th epa is 100% or less.

Well I tried out my bec setup tonight and it appears to have done nothing!! Winner winner chicken dinner. I did put my gt3b back in and checked the abs which was on and I switched it to off. I then calibrated with throttle epa's at 100 instead of 120 and everything appears much better. I still had a slightly slower throttle in reverse so I increased my epa in reverse to 105 and I think I am ok.

So Losikid knows his product. The abs was the biggest issue. I still have a steering twitch but I saw that with the spektrum setup too so I think it might be the servo.

ABS was the issue for me as well and it drove me nuts trying to figure it out the hard way! I somehow kept activating it ONLY when i would go out to run the scaler during G6. was fine until i tried to reverse and then it would surge.
everything has been great ever since

Ok so i have everything working but i have been having a little problem with the steering it works but the end points dont seem like they are quite getting there all the way even when set to the max and there seems to be little less power to the servo. I have messed with the end points and the expo and dual rates i'm just not finding it i know its not that stron of a servo but just doesnt feel as good as before the hack.
Any similar problems and or ideas?

Make your dual rates aren't limiting nothing (basically adjusts l/r endpoints at same time, so make sure thats a full max or full min (i don't remember)

If 120% max epa isn't enough you can go into the global setup menu and adjust epa's up to a max of like 150-200% (used to be 200% but i think max now is 150%). Now some gt3bs can't handle more than 120% and will start causing inference with ch2

Sorry just need a quick guide to doing so. Thanks so much for all you have done and all the help.

So...follow the red, green is other important stuff

Code:
Global setup menu:
==================
[COLOR="Red"]- enter it by ENTER-long[/COLOR]
- now menu items MODEL and NAME will start blinking
[COLOR="Lime"]- select requested item by ROTATE and press ENTER[/COLOR]
[COLOR="lime"]- use ROTATE to change value and press ENTER to end value changing[/COLOR]
[COLOR="lime"]- press BACK-long or ENTER-long to end global setup menu,[/COLOR]
values will be saved to EEPROM
- selected menu items are indicated by following symbols:
F firmware version (this of course cannot be changed :-)
    L backlight time 5s,10s...10m...MAX
    A inactivity alarm OFF,1m...10m
LOW POWER!	battery low voltage 7.5...10.5V
   [COLOR="Red"] [B][SIZE="4"]E.POINT[/SIZE][/B]	maximum allowed endpoint value	100...150%
DANGER - values greater than 120% can damage
your servo or will not be possible
to transmit to receiver because of
			    2.4GHz HF module limitation
This danger zone will be indicated with a flashing "d" symbol
		  for values greater than 120%[/COLOR]
1 dead zone for steering 0...50
2 dead zone for throttle 0...50
    b key beep OFF/ON
d long press key delay 100...1000 miliseconds
r + ALL	global reset - change to YES to set global configuration
and all models to default values
r + MOD	all models reset - change to YES to set all models
				   to default values

Does this help, seems fairly straight forward to me but i can do a step by step if needed tomorrow evening

Ok I think I got it from there. It seems pretty simple ill post if any problems tomorrow.
thanks again.

Would it be possible to assign a key to a 3r winch controler? I was thinking the 3rd channel rocker switch and make it momentary?

Thank you in advance
Rich

I don't see why not, just assign the switch you want as a 3 position to he 3rd channel "thumbsup"

I use Ch3 trim ( kinda like a rocker) for my winch set to momentary and ch3 single button to shift my summit trans

I put a red flashing power LED on mine and tied it into the 5v VR pin but it dims the backlighting every time it flashes. It annoys me to the point where I might just pull it and put a constant LED in. Would a cap inline help with the current sags? Pics of where I tied in the power for the LED and of my radio.

Your using a current limiting resistor right? 20ma shouldn't cause any noticeable dimming of the back light....also you can set your backlight to never turn off. It pulls 20ma just like a led does.

It's a Radio Shack special but I can't find it on thier page. It was rated to 5v so I'm running it direct.... is that my problem?

I'll have to get back to you, I don't have it handy. I don't know if my meter will react fast enough to catch the flashing mA draw. I'll see what I can get and post up.
