Also look at your impeller design
I think a mrc diff would work fine for the gear box. I saw someone make a PTO winch out of one. How ever I think a 280 motor will be underpowered. Perhaps at 370 or maybe even a 540. How big are you thinking of making it. Also, I looked up the speeds of the impeller speeds and auger speeds. I dont remember them but it seems like a mrc diff wont slow down the auger enough
yeah, just realized the impeller is all wrong. i drew it backwards (your layout is what i need to shoot for).
for the motor i wasn't sure what would be the right size. i was even thinking a cheap 370 brushless system like those from hobbywing might do. i still need to work on the gear ratios and the rpm's the impeller and augers would turn at. that might rule out the mrc diff.
the biggest concern i have is fabricating the auger. looking at my own snow blower is it two spirals offset 180deg from each other on each side of the center diff. that could be difficult. i was looking at thin fender washers or disc shim stock at mcmaster carr that would already be the desired diameter (i'm thinking 3"). that would cut down on my work and give me clean disks to start with.
