At our Iowa crawling meet up, the IFS trucks kept right up. I know that some of you were skeptical, and questioned as to why someone would build an ifs rig, but they did so well it surprised even me. I see so many noobs come on here saying they have an e-maxx and asking if they can turn it into a capable crawler. Most of the time people tell them to 4 link it etc.. Not necessary.
My truck broke 2 slider shafts after 20 minutes, but while it ran I never got stuck anywhere except a couple roll overs. Josh's E-maxx on the other hand threw down some impressive lines. Cole was the first to make a steep climb up some vertical ledges to the top of a 20ft "cliff" so to speek, second truck to ever make it up, and the ONLY shafty, Josh's Maxx. He did this with a rear differential that was clicking and clanking and jerking the truck around the entire way up. He was one of only 3 or 4 people to make another climb through a rocky ravine where the wrong line meant bad crash or broken parts. Cole was suprised to say the least, and there were really only 2 trucks out there that were any more capable than Josh'd E-maxx. I knew that the theory of independent trucks not being as capable would be soon put to rest.... As for anyone else deciding to build a crawler for the first time, dont sway from the independent realm of trucks. Just get creative and you can hang with any trucks, even some stick chassis trucks with a few key mods. Did I mention you get vurtually NO tourque twist? I am urging more people to try an independent design... you may be suprised or even amazed!:) ;-)

Who exactly were "the Best?"

And as I have debated in other threads, I believe in IS, and I believe that as we experiment with them and create new suspension ideas, they will greatly improve in the future.

As for the here and now, if emaxx's were out there actually beating capable clods, txts, tfs, etc etc etc........................then there is something seriously wrong here. I don't want to offend anyone by stating that they are crappy drivers, but...............

Hung with us on some of the obstacles some. It was impressive for a Maxx but could not keep up when the going got vertical. Not a whole lot of belly clearance with Maxx it can‘t do sharp ledges. Its no Clod but it was impressive for what it is.

I would like to second that, I have run several emaxx trucks, tlts, txts, clods, and i would say i am good driver, the solid axle trucks are more capable in 99.9% of the situations. just my experience.

oh god, here we go with the independent suspension again...

...oh, and I thought it was Nebraska that had the whole worlds supply of corn? I drove through there on my way coast to coast once. Nebraska, a whole day of corn on both sides of the road. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

I remeber that walker evans S10 they dumped tons of cash into the IFS thinking it was a revolution.. Only to break every part the first comp and scap the idea..

IMHO... Yes the IFS can work... just like a lighter works as a bottle opener.. but the thing with a solid axle is that the force of the tire going up, puts the other tire going down.. Its a simple concept and has always been the "way".. The travle and supplness of IFS is what makes it work and not really the concpet.. I dont think its gonna go any further... All this is my oppinion to bring this convo back.. Not to agrue in any way..

I belive that the future will bring an onslaught of high clearence axles (or portals). This will take the simple/reliable/and proven solid axle to the highest level. It is the future in 1:1 and will be here very soon..

Skip these do have a forced articulation on there ifs maxxes. These are also streached out. With 4 wheel steering.
It hung with us for the first 20min then they broke.
The breakover angle was there down fall when they got to the ledges it was over.

If they locked out their IFS to have forced articulation like you see most guys doing here, that's not IFS.

Oh boy Oh boy, The maxx truck that Josh had ran with some of the most capable trucks there plain and simple. Not on everything, not at all times, I didnt say that, but every truck there had its fair share of strengths and weaknesses. That is just how it goes, the maxx had no fewer strengths, and no more weaknesses than any other truck out there. Its performance was comperable which is amazing to me. Many of you know I am starting the new chassis for my maxx to make it solid axle because that is what I prefer. I have owned 2 clods and a txt... I am an SA guy, but for me to have seen that truck in action do as good as it did really deserves recognition and reconsideration about ignorant comments such as "IFS = It F***ing sucks" My truck was IFS that day because I found out about the GTG only a week before and had no time. I am by no means biased towards IFS, more so towards SA really. Just my observations.
