Well, I had been running a T1E Berg for over a year and it had been a great truck for me, but I needed a change. So after Midwest I sold my berg. But I did so with intentions of fully committing to the Axial XR-10.;-) I only did so after realizing that my berg had no where to go. It had been built with the best, latest, and greatest parts out there. I just didn't see the berg axles evolving into something better (except for the Ti-fighters). Factory support for the axles was non existent and parts were all custom parts from our great vendors here on RCC.
The Axial XR-10 is a new and fresh truck but its still in its infancy. There is so much more that we can expect to happen to the XR axles, so I decided to take a leap of faith.

Finally this past monday I started the build. I purchased a set of XR axles from a member here on RCC, but I should have just bought new ones since I scrapped damn near every part on them to load them up with VP and RC4WD goodies!!

Here's the parts list so far......

Axial XR-10 Axles
VP knuckles, chubs, lockouts, motor plates, and tranny cases.
RC4WD gears
Robinson Pinions
4" Traxxas big bore shocks (limited to 3 5/8")
Losi Gold springs,
Jeepin Doug shock mounts
T1E Rockshow Signature Series Chassis (Thanks Mike!!!)
Mayhem Engineering Evolution wheels
Xirtic upper links
Mamba Micro Pros
Castle BEC
Futaba BLS152 Brushless Steering servo
Holmes Hobbies Torquemaster 35t (with laydown brushes:twisted:)
Hot Bodies Sedona's
Crawler Innovations Foams
Futaba 3PKS Transmitter
Elite 1000mah 35C lipos from CBP
18ga wire

Now, I'm not gonna bore you with step by step instructions on how I built this truck because everyone knows how to bolt things together. So on to the pics!!!!!

Mayhem Engineering Evolution Wheels, 1" wide Aluminum version

This photo show the wheels in the 2nd narrowest offset combination. You can go narrower by flipping the center spoke section. I'm just gonna try them out like this to see how they work at first.

18 gauge wire from Cheapbatterypacks.com This wire worked VERY well and soldered up nicely!
T1EXR10Build011Large2.jpg

Futaba BLS152 Brushless Servo. 400+oz of torque at 6V. Should be plenty!!

T1EXR10Build010Large.jpg

The VP axles..... I just have the link mounts left to get. RC4WD goodies inside! I put new cases on the axles after I took this pic. I wanted it to look new! LOL!!

T1EXR10Build008Large.jpg

Track width on front axles with the narrowest wheel offset that clears everything. 9 7/16"!!
T1EXR10Build019Large.jpg

Track width on the rear axle, I can go narrower!!

One thing I thought I'd share with ya. I had called Rockshow last night when putting my lower links together because I had come up about 1/2" short on my wheelbase using all Revo Rod ends on the links.

The links are designed with using the stock Axial rod ends on the lower links. The axial rod ends are slightly longer than the revo rod ends so I had to use trimmed down Jato rod ends on the lower links to get the right wheelbase.

My truck sits at 12 3/8" at rest and grows only 1/8" at about 3/4 compressed!! Very nice!!!

Also, my RTR weight as of right now is 6lbs 2oz. That is with 6.6oz of weight in each front wheel. The rear aluminum wheels weigh in at 3.4oz each and I'm soon switching to Delrin rears and they are 1oz lighter! Therefore I can take 2 more oz out of the front. I'm gonna try to lighten this truck up a little more to see how it reacts.

Once I got the truck up and running, I immediately noticed how light it felt. Now keep in mind, the truck weighs 6lbs right now. My old berg weighed in at 6.2lbs but it felt much heavier when driving it. The XR weighing only 2oz less right now just feels A LOT more nimble.

The first thing I noticed on the rocks was how STABLE the truck was. Mike had told me that I should notice a difference between this new Rockshow chassis and my old Moonbuggy and he wasn't kidding!!! WOW!! Its a pretty dramatic difference. So far with only having 2 battery packs through it, I can't really see any reason to tweak or adjust anything at all on the truck. It flat performs! I'm confident that as long as these axles hold up, this truck will perform as well if not better than my berg has. So far I'm very impressed with the truck as a whole. I'm very glad I made the switch!!"thumbsup"

Looks great!

Very cool wheels. What width did you decide on?

Your skid looks nice and low. What height are you at the front of the skid?

At normal running height, I'm at 2 7/8" at the front of the skid and drooped out i'm at 3 1/4". I ran my old berg just about an 1/8" higher than this one, but I'm gonna try this to see if I like it. It just feels a lot more stable right now, and I have not found anything that my old one would do that this one will not. I've actually found things that this one will do that my old one wouldn't!!!

The wheels are pretty sweet!! Thanks for the compliment!! The new Mayhem Evo's are a pretty revolutionary design that are VERY adjustable. There are so many possible offset combinations that I could come up with it would make your head spin!!!

As far as track width, I've decided to keep a little stagger in the truck, 1/2" total stagger.
Total track width from outside lug to outside lug on my sedona's in the front is right at 11 1/4" The rear is at 10 3/4" I can go narrower in the front, But I'm just not sure how wide most other people are running. I can narrow the rear up by another 3/4" or more if I want!!

Curious if anyone could tell me the outside to outside measurement on their fronts with VP wheels??

Nice looking rig man, I will have the same wheels here in a few days.

Trust me, you'll love em!!!!

Looks sweet dude. What are you sitting at for ground clearence?

Its in the post directly above yours.. LOL!! 2 7/8" at running height at the front of the skid, and 3 1/4" drooped out. Right around 3 5/8" at the rear of the skid I think.

You had to shave down the Jato ends? How much? I didn't shave any off them and the wheelbase is dead nuts on.

I shaved down the jato ends on just the rear links. Maybe a 1/8" or less. wasn't much, but I was just a touch long with full length Jato ends. Might have something to do with how much I clocked the front and rear axles though.

With SLW's and 475 hubs or DH wheels the front runs 11" to 11 1/8".

I'd keep the stagger down to between a quarter to a half inch. Things get more unstable the wider the stagger.

Kinda what I was thinking too. I'm probably going to narrow the front up another 1/4" and see how it does.

Looks good Jesse. How well do the Mamba Micro's fit in there? Got a pic of the electronics? Just need new ESC's to build my rockshow, my sidewinders don't even come close to fitting. I want to stick with Castle, but the size of the FXR's is making me debate.

Looks great man! You're running all the right parts right from the beginning.I know what you mean about buying used axles and swapping parts. You can pretty much buy everything aftermarket now besides shafts and housings. That's what I did too. Live and learn I guess.

The housings are super easy to redrill if you want to clock your motor up and then add castor to compensate in the front. Will need the VP link mount to run straight links though. If you go far enough with your castor, you can tuck your solid tierod up to the motor by running it on top off the double shear arms instead of in between. I run a spacer in between the arms so they don't distort as I tighten the screw. I got about 24-25* of castor, with the motor clocked up high enough to match the links' bends.

The Mamba micro's fit perfect in the chassis. There is enough room for both of the mambas and the castle BEC in the main center skid section. Off of the rear of the skid is another little plate that you can put your receiver on. My battery is currently resting on the front of the skid in the normal battery mount spot. Thinking about getting one of those Big Rons battery mounts though! Not sure I like the idea of putting the battery on the front axle, but I can see how putting the weight forward can help. I can likely lighten the rig up quite a bit by putting the battery farther forward.

x2. "thumbsup"

Rig looks great! I like the wheels a lot.

Thanks man! Dan did a hell of a good job on these new Evo's. Not a lot of people have them yet, so they are not getting the much deserved attention.

looks good man. Look forward to following you and how well it does in Comp.

Thanks Curt! Look forward to seeing you again in another month or so. I'm planning on making at least 1 comp up in Minnesota this year."thumbsup"

I've seriously been thinking about adding more caster to the front. I've already did the slot mod on the chubs, but I think redrilling the axle tubes would be a better idea. My motor is somewhere between 0 and 5* clocked up right now. I gotta drive it some more to see if I like it. I ran about 5* of clock up on my motors on my berg with about 15* of caster. I'm running slighly bent links up front right now and have a TON of room to go if I decide to clock the motor up a bit more.

LOL!! I'm pretty sure its right. I'll let you drive it, then I'll give you Mikes number so you can get your own... LOL!!!:flipoff: Thanks for the compliment bud! Good luck at ECC, wish I could join ya there this year."thumbsup"

Jus when u thought I made up my mind on what chassis to run, you post this thing... looks excellent man. Can't wait to run against it some time

Well, the T1E moonbuggy/stage chassis was the best chassis I've ran to date, and I was sure that this new one would not disappoint. I'm very happy with it so far. I gotta get a little more time on the rocks with it to make sure its to my liking, but I'm sure it will do just fine!"thumbsup"

Looks Awesome Jesse. Are you gonna keep the battery in the chassis, or maybe try moving it out to the front axle later on to see how it works with it up front?

Looks like there will be a few new XR10's at Camp twisted this weekend, I can't wait to see this thing. "thumbsup"

I've been thinking about doing that, but first I wanna see how it does with the battery mounted on the chassis.

Looks good Jesse.

Thanks Andy. Gotta keep up with you somehow! LOL!"thumbsup"
