I've always been wanting to get TLT axles and hack them up to get a shorter width. I'll just be going to this build thread constantly.

Good job so far :thumbsup

TLT Kit ordered, looking to score a trans on ebay. Might start on the chassis later tonight. It's hard to make a chassis look scale for a unibody truck.

I want to link this truck up at both ends. Probably a 2 link panhard setup with coil overs for the front. Rear will probably be 4 link with coils.

Went to work on the front axle today with some spare parts I had laying around.

The stock width is a bit much.

So Rick made up a Jig from M4 all thread to find the proper width.

Perfect, we wanted the spacing to look like the wheels had 3.50 backspacing. The width will help stop the truck from rolling all the time.

After measuring the width of the all thread rod he went to work marking the axle to be cut.

Cut, round two took .69 inches off the width.

The bearing hole had to be retrimmed with the dremel.

Good to go

I then had to work on shortening the axle shaft. My first plan was to use a spare short shaft but it was not long enough as the axle goes into the diff farther on this side then the other side. So Rick and I chopped a longer shaft to length and welded it with my MIG. Wasn't sure how the heat would effect the metal or if it would be strong enough, so I just went for it. The weld seemed to have good penitration, with 1.9's it shouldn't be to much stress. My original plan was the make a sleeve with set screws to hold it, but that was to much work.

Its good to see some progress being made on this thing, Its going to look really good when its done. Can't wait for more Jim style updates.

The black rims on those tires really set the rig off"thumbsup" Can't wait to see what happens next. Is rick married or will he find a jeep chick in this build along the way:mrgreen:
