Jeep Grand Cherokee (Rick's Build)

Now that was sweet....The axle and shaft looks like it came that way.:)

By the way you SUCK...

oh my god I swear you spend more time putting that guy in funny places/positions than you spend working on the truck......

But I got a good laugh out of it. Love what you did to those axles!! Its nice to see someone who isnt afraid to do their own modifications like that.

Impatient much?:shock::shock:

Body is 6 1/2 wide and before someone else askes it's 16 1/4 long:lol:

Sneek peek of whats to come
DSC00559.jpg

I sort of used a picture of a XJ and grafted a basic chassis layout. I included the original XJ link and leaf mounting points. But, being that the truck will ride higher on coilovers then stock I might have to come up with a long arm setup. Not thinking I'll be using leaf springs. Trying to come up with a setup that uses a lot of droop as so the body can be mounted low and scale yet it can still perform. I used steel as so I can weld components to it like sliders, shock hoops and bumpers. The weight will help as the tires don't grip fantastic. Besides whats more scale then having a truck that is heavy like a 1:1. I know the body is not a XJ but it's hard to find a Grand in SAS offroad form. Let me know what you think.

ben you can do a revolver shackle like setup using the two hole tlt link mounts, eithir to the shocks(4 link) or leafs. leafs under the akles in front might look and work good too.i'll post some pics of my cc-01 so you'll know what im talking about.i did mine tothe shocks.

I do remember that setup, I may have to do something similar. With TLT shocks I may get enough flex as it is.

More progress..

After looking at the stock servo axle mounts Rick wasn't happy with the way they looked. The servo mounts ruined the look of the axle.

Out came the Dremel"thumbsup"

Much better
DSC00573.jpg

I helped Rick get the chassis rails bent. We then lightly tacked on the trans plate and installed some long arm mounts.

DSC00577.jpg

Rick then started to mock up the lower links.
DSC00581.jpg

Rick found that these recycled TLT tierods will work. When sleeved with brake line later it will give the truck a scale look.

Done

Wrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Bleeeepleep! Sup Rick
DSC00598.jpg

(Jim) I've got a fresh load of driveshafts for you Rick.
DSC00600.jpg

(Rick) I scored them off Ebay for $7 bucks, Some guy must have just converted to CVD's.
DSC00605.jpg

(Rick) Thanks for picking these up at the mailbox Jim, it's hard to carry parts on your back.
DSC00609.jpg

(Jim)No problem Rick, I have a truck might as well use it.
DSC00613.jpg

(Rick)Whew! glad thats over
(Jim) So what have you been working on Rick?
(Rick) I've been working on the upper link, I could use some insight.
(Jim) Cool lets check it out.
DSC00617.jpg

(Jim) Looks good have you thought about mounting the link directly To the pumpkin?
(Rick) What?
DSC00618.jpg

(Jim) Like this
DSC00627.jpg

(Rick) Well that might work, I'll still have to figure in the other stuff that might get in the way. Having the link that far forward might screw with the anti squat. Thanks for that though never would have though about it.
(Jim) Well I better get going, the kid needs to get to bed.
DSC00632.jpg

(Rick) Later Jim
DSC00634.jpg

(Jim) Bye
(Truck)titititt Vrooomm MMMMmmmmmmmmm
DSC00635.jpg

Hmm, I wonder what I have for servos. Guess I'll check the supply room.
DSC00638.jpg

This one's too big, the rest have stripped gears.
DSC00644.jpg

Time to order a Tower pro.

Reading with interest again, this amuses me a lot, just like the other build !

Mnster, I'm sure you bring a laugh at many faces ! Thanks "thumbsup"

MNSTER , you need to do these build threads up in a book , or comic book form , hell , i'd buy a few "thumbsup"

hopefully we'll see rick's truck done so we can see rick and jim at one of the MN g2g's this summer

It's coming along good. I followed you last build up when you did "Jim's" truck. I'm looking forward to the end of this one."thumbsup"

Rick decided to go snowmobiling today, while waiting for parts.
DSC00655.jpg

It wasn't long and he found himself in trouble.
DSC00657.jpg

Off in the distance he saw Jim on his way to the mailbox
DSC00658.jpg

DSC00659.jpg

After digging himself out he went back to the shop.
DSC00669.jpg

A short while later Jim pulled up with a used B3 stealth trans.
DSC00672.jpg

Nice, but very heavy
DSC00675.jpg

DSC00676.jpg

(Rick)Floor it Jim!
DSC00683.jpg

DSC00687.jpg

Thanks Jim, I'll see you later.
DSC00688.jpg

DSC00689.jpg

After rolling the trans over he began to take the lower skid plate off.
DSC00693.jpg

He got to the last screw which appeared to be stripped and CA'd into place.
DSC00695.jpg

DSC00700.jpg

After slotting it with the Dremel we were able to remove it with a flat blade screwdriver.
DSC00701.jpg

He then moved it into position with a old snowmobile trailer.

DSC00707.jpg

DSC00709.jpg

DSC00711.jpg

The fit was tight, it's pretty amazing we came this close just by guessing.
DSC00714.jpg

The trans needed a few good stomps to make it fit.
DSC00717.jpg

After looking at how small of a driveshaft we would need for the front. Rick moved it back some.
DSC00720.jpg

DSC00721.jpg

To see if the pinion angle would be ok Rick raised the frame to propper height.
DSC00723.jpg

Looks good, we could always tilt the rear.
DSC00725.jpg

More later...

Hey ben, tell rick that Kila found that picture of his rig fully articluated using that revolving upper shock mount mod, that he used on his cc-01.he said to tell you that it could be applied to your build very easily, because the upper mount is brazed. Right up your alley!
DSCF0023.jpg

He's gonna try to post a vid of the articulation too.

love you're comedy man, i can't wait to see this bad boy done! I can't count how many times my old boss caught me looking up your toyota build....
