Joint pain pills

What?

I stand on concrete for 8 hours. Skateboarded and rode bikes. Bad joints. Buying New Balance cheap old man running shoes has helped tremendously. Contrary to what someone just posted

I've worked retail for over 20 years over tile, concrete, and now epoxy coated concrete, which I swear is the worst of the 3. I've also beat myself up pretty good cycling when I was younger, weight lifting, in more recent years, and just being fat the whole time. I am wearing some pretty decent working shoes right now, changed my diet some, etc, but short of finding a job where my fat ass is parked most of the day, I'm not sure what else I can do.

Thiis is looking to be a low mileage shift, I haven't walked 1.5 miles yet and I leave in 2 hours!

Possibly. See your physician. Exercise does not help arthritis, if that is your problem.

J

It's not arthritis in my case (luckily), just lumpucks disease. But if the knees suddenly start hurting badly, I'll go see my ortho. Other than routine physicals, I don't go to the doctor unless it's absolutely necessary. BJoe, by all means get yours checked out to make sure it's nothing serious though. In my case, I know it's just 90% being lazy the past few years.

agreed on getting into the ortho, it sucks and it can hurt if they get real pushy, but they will do what they can to help. some physical therapy routines that you can do at home. of course losing weight can help, but the exercise will have you keeping the couch down. i try to walk back and forth from the house to the shed (couple hundred yards) instead of driving the mower, but some days its just too much to do it 2-3 times a day.

and long term ibuprofen use is really bad for your stomach, as is aspirin. one day after years of pretty heavy ibuprofen use, i woke up and started puking blood. tylenol is also bad for your liver, between that and the drinking i still have decreased liver function.

now i'm on gabapentin (nerve pain blocker) and that is a real help during the day. if they want to put you on narcotic painkillers (percoset, vicodin, couple others), i'd advise you to say no and go for something non-narcotic. i've beaten that monkey off my back now twice, not fun. tramidol is working well now, maybe a bit of aspirin if its really bad.

biggest thing is listen to your body. if its not happy with what you're doing, back off for a little bit or try changing how you do it. the knees have torqued my back and hips now. the hips are hard to work out the kink, and the back just plain sucks.

running shoes are harder than walking shoes. but easier to find.

I might have to ask about the gabapentin. I have been taking Tramadol 50mg for about a year. Usually 1 a day in the morning so I can move ( if not I move like a 90 year old man on a bad morning). But I chase them with tylenol because a single by itself does not do much.

look into it, i'm not saying its the solution for everyone, but it really has turned it around for me. i'm on a normal-high dose, 600 3 times a day. they'll start you on a lower dose and then up you to your final dose over the course of a month in my case. i noticed it was doing something in a week, and was really up and going after they upped the dose. only thing is you may not want to drive during that, i still get a bit wobbly moving too fast. something you have to get used to if you want to try it.

i've blown up both shoulders then just generally killed a wrist, hands, knees, hips, back, and an ankle. the knees took out the hips and the back like i said, the hand had an altercation with combine parts and the wrist was taken with that, and the ankle was a sad attempt at skateboarding. combine that with climbing up, down, and under machinery all my life and 4 years of concrete (250 yds a week and daily move and reset locations), it really didn't take long to go all to hell.

Barometric pressure affects lots of things
Yep!

When I was a kid, I used to think my dad was full of shit when he told me that he had plants that could predict rain.....until I saw it. I have since put those plants in the yard of every house I have owned.

We used to sit around and smoke plants like this. We predicted lots of things and ate a lot of cheetos. :flipoff::mrgreen:

Kidding I know what you are referring to"thumbsup"

running shoes are harder than walking shoes. but easier to find.

Walking and standing, I had a 7hr shift today, but only walked 2.25 miles, most of it was standing and talking to customers. Had more than a few 6hr shifts that I easily walked 3.5-5+ miles in those 6 hours.

Walk and sit a lot for my work, all concrete floors. 2-4 miles a day depending how much needs fixed (IT guy, roughly 300,000 sq ft building). I wear Merrell hiking boots with inserts for work. I have New Balance shoes for working around the house and working out. Cushion type inserts for those.

Lots of good advice in this thread.

What kinda plants are those? Morning Glory?

Morning glory (Ipomea). If the flowers fail to open in the morning the day will be wet! If they fail to close by late afternoon, tomorrow will be also. Also 4'o' Clock Plant - several other common names - (Jalapa mirabilis). If the flowers ARE open in the morning, the afternoon will be wet.

And see a doctor.

Yeah, if you're in pain and just guessing, rather than having a firm diagnosis of the cause you could actually make things worse rather than better. Trying to treat say worn/torn/missing cartilage with a pain killer isn't going to do much to cure the problem in the long term.

It didn't do shit to help me and I was on 3600mg a day. It also puts you at an increased risk of seizures. Be careful to taper off if you ever stop taking it.

a lot of these sort of meds are like that. for me, works fine. for you, didn't do shit. a lot of it is body chemistry at the end of the day, there is no one med to rule them all in anything, and all of them have side effects.

Morning Glory, the gateway seed to Belladonna, The deadly nightshade will take away all your aches and pains. So I hear.

Thanks! Hmmm, it doesn't work that way in Norcal...pretty flowers, but it will take over an area if you're not careful. We have a couple growing in the yard. "thumbsup"

I do a lot of mountain biking and last year my knees and elbows really started killing me. If I rode two days in a row, I could barely walk stairs. I started with the fish oil and then added glucosamine / chondroitin with a little relief, but still pretty bad. Someone told me about this stuff: Amazon.com: Universal Nutrition Animal Flex, 44 Count: Health & Personal Care .

I took the first can everyday and the pain is just about gone. I now only take it every other day.
