.that aitronics one is impressive, But is it Titanium?
has typical 60 degree movement

I fried my 5995 and 5955 by mistake and looking for an upgrade

Newbie questions

I'm thinking of going to 4 wheel steering on my CR-01.
I remembered I had an old Airtronics set of 2 servos from
a boat kit I never used. They are 94394s. Still in plastic.
Can/should I use these in the CR-01?
Better/worse than the Futaba S3003 that came with
the T2PH ? ( I know I'll upgrade to a 3 channel Futaba
when I do install a second servo for rear steer)
The book says it produces over 45 oz. in. torque.
Sounds low given what I read here.

Second question: What the heck is the 4, 2a battery pack with switch used for? I didn't install it and the truck seem to run fine. I'm sure it's in
the box for a reason but I can't find instructions on where
it installs and what it's for.
Please forgive a newbie for asking, but I have tried looking for these
answers before asking.
 
I used Futaba & Airtronics back in 1985 of 1/10 2wd buggy racing but the airtronics servos did not last long and transmitter is great, and my futaba 2 transmitters are shot but servos are ok

Customers service:
So far HI TEC is Awesome for Product & service, I just sent in my 5995, 5955 that where nearly 2 yrs old and may have been subjected to a highter voltage, any way within 10 days I was upgraded to new 7955 servos for Free !!!!!
They sent me a post card of the status and 2 days later Fed Ex arrived. Best Day I had

Sometimes you need to pay attention to customer service and product results over some other product that you saw on the internet.

That would be fine for steering. Anything over 200oz is great for a 2.2 rig. For a shift or dig servo a right around 50oz is good. Have you decided what BEC you will run? I would recommend a Castle Creations BEC it has a 10amp 5v supply is adjustable with the castle link software though it works very well out of the box. The amperage is the key."thumbsup"
 
I used to use other servos but i got tired of replacing them. Get Hitec 5990TG Robot servos and use the Castle BEC. Running at 7v it will pic the rig up and barely gets warm. Do some hunting and you can get them for $110 plus shipping.
 
I have had the tower pro's on my super that weighs over eleven pounds. Now I run a 7.4v reciever pack because I felt they were a little weak. No problems so far.
 
I can't believe you guys don't know about the cs170 hobbico. Guess what, it is the hitech 5995 with 333oz torque.

Except it cost 80 bucks.

Now go buy one! LOL

Does anyone use these? They seem to have massive torque, a bit on the large side though.
 
does anyone know what brand the axial as-1 really is? i just fried my hitec 645mg and was thinking on making one out of the two. the as-1 has a broken output shaft. these are crappy times otherwise i'd buy a new and better one:-(

Nice servos, but it really depends on the application. I've been running two of them in my Revo 3.3 for a while now. Makes a great steering servo for the Revo, but I wouldn't even think about trying them in a super class crawler. For the money, you are mostly paying for the brushless motor, which really isn't giving you a big enough benefit to make it worth the cost. There are other servos out there, for the same price, that have greater torque and speed. Futaba just recently released a stronger brushless servo now too. The BLS 352, but even that one doesn't have any big torque numbers. Just 250 oz.

If you like Futaba servos, definitely pick up one of their S9156 servos. Way more power then the brushless servos. 340 oz. of torque. I run these on just about every truck I have. Great servos, excellent torque and speed, and good bang for the buck. On par with most HiTec servos. Should that not be enough for you, then look at the Futaba S9157. 425 oz. of torque on 6 volts. I just bought and installed an S9157 on my super. It's really nice. For the money, you get a better deal with this servo then the BLS 351 or 352.

I used to run a lot of HiTec servos, but now that I have Futaba radios and receivers, I just went all Futaba. Can't complain about my HiTec servos. Never had a problem with them, but I sure am loving the newer Futaba servos. It used to be Futaba was behind everyone else, as far as shear torque specs went, so I am really happy to see them get in the game with the S9156 and S9157. These are probably the best servos Futaba has to offer in a standard sized case.
 
Tried the BLS 352, they work quietly and will hold a position. But I would not push them too hard. Would love to try the S9157 but Local Distributor still don't have em.

It is a Japan version released in very limited numbers, December 2008.
JPY17,745 (roughly $200 with paypal fees and shipping). This is not a High Voltage version but can be powered up to 7.2V (Although not necessary or recommended.)

Corey of Rpphobby got the JRZ9100HVT at a cool price "thumbsup".

Oh, don't get me wrong. I love the BLS352 + 4pk combi. The response is so sharp -- I'd say Great for 1/8 scale off-road. And I'm sure you can push, coz I actually did in my crawler-- but I think I over did it a bit.
 
Not that I have a ton of experience with hi-torque servos, but...


I just want to chime in that I'm running the Futaba s9156. I had a Cirrus '704something' that got hot every time I ran and it eventually burned out (fried the chips on the circuit board).

I chose the S9156 over the S9157 thinking the 9157 would pull more power that the 9156 and that I was more than happy with the old '200-or-so Oz.' servo. The 400+ Oz. servo (9157) would be overkill, in my mind. The 9156 has way more speed, performance, and torque that the old Cirrus.

The extra $$ for this Futaba servo was well worth it. It sometimes gets just warm enough to notice, most of the time it is nice and cool.

Bottom line-- it has plenty of torque and is nice and fast. I'm VERY happy with it! "thumbsup"
