New comp spots ?????

We have been there before "thumbsup" I did'nt think it was big enough area of rock for comps though..We can go have a second look and there is a place right down the road from there that is awesome but hard to get to...

This is Racoon Mountain Campground. Looks very promising

Repost... pics were too big.

Another Good Looking Spot. This is the Appilacha Power House at Hiwassee.

It's in the middle of nowhere, and you are only likely to run into fly fishermen this time of year.

It's Quarried rock from right behind the power house. It's similar to Carters Lake Dam, but different kind of rock and a lot more of it. There are 2 ways to access it. There is a long gravel road leading right up to where you can park at the top of the rock... or you can park across the river (paved all the way) but you will have to walk about 150 yards to the rocks across a swinging bridge. Not a whole lot of parking on the paved side, but unlimited on the gravel side.

It's open all year, and offers free access for boating, tubing, fishing, hiking (john Muir Trail) and now Crawling !! The Dangerous Water sign is to keep fishermen out from below the water spillway.

Tip: It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission!!

I called the Dayton place and the guy hem-hawed around and never gave me an answer. He said he would ask his supervisor and call me back. Well he never did, so I'm going to assume that means it's OK. 8)

Honestly... I don't think they woould have ever thought twice if they happened by and saw us there... but now that I have called, thay might think more about it if they see a group there with R/Cs.

I agree!! I find its better to break-in the place in with a few visits by smaller groups....let them discover you....when they find you are there....then ask if its ok to come back

We went back to the chilhowee spot today and I still do not think it would be good for a big comp..maybe 8 or 10 people any more than that we would be running all over each other...It does have some nice rock and good lines I just wish it were a bigger area....:x

The powerhouse looks good been there a million time fishing...But it may be a bit to far out for most people to drive to ??? I think we need to set a day for 7 or 8 of us to go and check out Raccoon Mnt...I think that location would draw the most people...If not the wooded area you got pics of then the dam looks good also..

Did you go around to the side where I shot that video? That's pretty cool. And there are a couple of good courses worth right up top in the front overlooking the parking. You are righht though. I think it's probably too small too.

Too far out? I'm about to drive 2 hours in a couple of weeks to Raptorman's back 40 where (I have been told) my Jeep wont make it to. If that's not too far out... Hiwassee can't be "thumbsup" At least I know my Jeep will make it there ;-)...

Seriously though... I know what you mean. Have you been to it by the gravel road on the other side of the river?

Found a new great practice area near Ocoee called Goforth Creek. It's on the Ocoee but across the road from the river. Huge all natural rocks. Plenty of course options.

Just not enough parking for a comp

Idea for comp site

I HAVE A FRIEND THAT OWNS A 300 ACRE FARM IN SWEETWATER, AND ITS NOT ALL FLAT. I CAN DRIVE AROUND AND SEE IF ANY GOOD AREAS. I REMEMBER THERE WAS CREEKS AND RIDGES ALL AROUND. PLENTY OF PARKING. OFF OF EXIT 62 ON I-75.

We really do need to get busy with this, Harvo has been doing atot of "lookin" I have found some spots just past the Occoee at Hiawasee Dam visitors center, bathrooms, a pavillion and plenty of parking, just a little farther down the road than the WWC. Another spot is Cherokee Dam, it is before Hiawasee Dam and has better rock but not much parking and is steep crawling, 45 degree angle, and might not be there in the summer depending on how full Hiawasee Lake gets. I am also constantly looking for more spots to crawl, so we just need to have some time to test these spots out and see if they are comp worthy, so lets get busy and have some get-togethers and test some new spots!"thumbsup""thumbsup"
