New OCM 2.2 Crawler Review

A freind reminded me that OCM made an 1/8 buggy. The only issue was getting parts support for the buggy. The good part about the buggies were that most parts were interchangable from other popular kits. However, with a crawler that's not really possible. Hope they have the parts support figured out.

that's a very nice piece of kit, and the digital manual is a nice touch for the slightly less than organized among us. 10.5" track width is a bit wide for my tastes tho. what we need is a set of 2.2 beadlocks with the same offset as, say, a set of HPI Super Nitro RS4 wheels. maybe a little bit more offset than that. that would bring the track width in quite a bit.

i coulda swore i saw this kit on ebay for like $700 bucks. pretty cool design.. full metal 2.2 clod... curious on the gearing on the axles. keep it coming!

Internal gear ratio comes in at 11.43:1. Internal spur gear is 42T, and stock provided pinion is 12T, so out of the box, we have a final ratio of 40:1.

All gears are 48p, so lower tooth pinions may not be available (I think 12t is the lowest available).

*** I NEED HELP HERE FROM THE EXPERTS AS TO THE BEST TURN LATHES TO ORDER HERE AS A GOOD STARTING POINT*****:)
I usually just search to see what works best for others using the same rig/tranny/axles.........but I can't do that here.;-)

I will be out in the shop tonight, so I will update the original post with more specs and pics.

I will also be putting OCM's customer support to a test in the next few days. One of my axles came with the gear/dust cover missing, so I will be emailing looking for a replacement.

40:1, with 2.2 tires I would go with a pair of 35t's and a 3 cell lipo. Also maybe 12 tooth pinions, and may I ad that I am very jealous right now.

Polished axle kit! This one is Powder coated.

The price must have went up, that site is showing 289.99 plus shipping.

He stated that with the discount program and what not that te price was lower!

Ok, it's official. I just signed up for amain's newsletter, as soon as they send me a coupon I'm buying one. The two things I needed to know have satisfactory answers! Good gear ratio, standard gear pitch. I can't fawkin' wait! X2 on the 35t motors on 3c lipo. 40:1 Isn't that far off from what most 2.2 crawlers run, maybe a tit higher.

you dont by chance have a set of axial 40 series beadlocks you could throw on there do ya? and give us a track width measurement?8)

Wow. That kit looks amazing! I had no idea that the axles were going to be made out of aluminum...

its shafty vs clod all over again but now in the 2.2 relm! i love the full metal design!!!

Enter the next new fad!

WOW!!! Nice review. It would be nice to see more internal pics. Looks like a really nice axle and wheel set, hopefully they'll be able to support this product with parts and more dealers/distributors. Always nice to have options. And a heavy duty one at that:twisted:. Slim might need a little brother.

Do you think the dog bone and outer drive cup will be able to take the punishment of us crawlers ?

This sucks, there goes more of my money. LOL

This is great news, I hope that they can take a beating and that parts become readily available.
