I wanna be Dave
Stay away from the new traxxas for now... Early running has resulted in several exploding esc's. I used to blast the lakes in my tunnel hulls, nothing like a 27" all wood boat running 65mph on its prop.
Hobbyking has a duel motor burshless cat that has been getting huge reviews and even with shipping is far cheaper than the Traxxas (no no local support).
What you get will partially depend on how you plan to run it. Just out blasting along, the old traxxas Villians were awesome boats. You could sink it, recover it and run it again all day long. A vee bottom will give you the best rough water use and turning. If your someone that likes to get out first thing in the morning when the water is glass and you have a recovery boat handy, get that new aquacraft tunnel hull with the brushless outboard. On glass water it will smoke about any other production rc boat out there. Personally, I would go aquacraft over traxxas no matter what your looking at getting into.
If you like me an like building, check out offshore electrics...
