photobucket what happend

So I'm not computer savvy, I got flickr, seems like a FB thing, I looked at imgur...what's that... PB just seems to easy without all that social media stuff... So is there an app like PB ,or no ?

I wonder if any of the other photo hosts will follow.

The problem is in the basic business model of hosting companies. Until now it has basically been ad-driven, but I think a lot of users are like me and simply ignore the ads. So, they need to find another way to generate revenue.

It is however backed up and running in a server and RAID array to prevent downtime and loss. While the quote is funny - it's more to scare people than to give information.

Meant, that using Photobucket as your only backup was/is not a good idea. Every one that has said they need to download the images has failed. They should not have to download any of them, they should already have them.

Until CD/DVD readers are a thing of the past. That time has already come. Getting an internal CD/DVD drive in a laptop is about impossible on modern laptops. Next will be desktop - but wait until THIN clients return. No more powerful PCs just minor devices to display what a server/cloud/SaaS server is running. Then how will your ancient coffee mug holders do you for data access?

Just because its not mainstream doesn't mean its not used. Optical achieving isn't going anywhere for while. When it gets replaced I will migrate to that.

The optical disks are my "oh shit" backup. That means my RAID has failed, my main PC died, AND my off site drive is dead. All that happens in the same day I'm not having a good day anyway.

and depending on the task, thin clients are still in use. HP and Dell have loads of them.

Photobucket's site has been buggy, with terrible tech support, tons of ads (more ads than I've ever seen on one site lol) and it's built like crap, even logged in with paid account it's slow, doesn't work well even on brand new high powered smartphone, they want you to install their damn app, no thanks! :flipoff:

The more I read this, the more confused I get. I've got about 2400 pics, and use 0% of my storage space.

I copy pics off my phone, resize them with photoshop, and upload them. Much smaller, 800x600 - usually under 100kb each. No where near my space or bandwidth limits.

I tried to look them up, and of course PB crashed in the middle of it!!

I'm not worried about losing the pics since I already have them all. I only use it for posting pics on forums. I believe I have +20 plan ($30/yr) which is no longer available. If I am understanding this correctly, there will be no 3rd party hosting on the lower plans going forward.

So when my current plan expires, I assume I'll be forced to upgrade to the $399 if I want to keep using it for 3rd party hosting?

With no notice or explanation? (Did Axial buy Photobucket? They must have the same PR department.)

This is a total joke if that's the case...

(EDIT) Just cancelled this years payment....saved $30 in any case. Deleted most of my pics... :( Having done that, I'm sure they'll now reverse course in a few days and I'll have done all this work for nothing.

I have been hosting my own pictures for years since I setup a Website for my wifes business.

For $50/year, $40 for web hosting and $10 for a domain name, you can host your own pictures on your own web space. That also include 3 websites should you want to expand. 20GB of webspace. No reliance on anyone. A group of people could go in and make it cheaper yet. While it isn't as easy as using PB, once you get a method for hosting and uploading it isn't bad. I use FTP to upload from anywhere. Phone or PC.

You could setup up a Wordpress site (one click install) and use WP to upload and resize pics. Then just copy the URL like using Photobucket.

Here is one of my directories full of pictures that have been posted. Index of /drzoo2/web

Hosting: https://www.namecheap.com/hosting/shared.aspx

Domain Registration: https://www.namecheap.com/

Drzoo2 great idea, been awhile since I had my own domain and site, but not that expensive or difficult to do. Filezilla is great free ftp software that I've used and still do for work. :)

I just wanted to throw this out there. It may not work anymore, but I just got an "ad-free" account with PB a month or so ago. They encouraged the big $ plan, but I don't use them a lot, so I went with the bottom dollar deal .... $14.95 for the year, but they had emailed me a $10-off code, so it only cost me $4.95 for the year's sub'. No extra space, but no ads and my pic's still work in my threads .... so far anyway. That may change, and we'll see what renewal will be next year, but so far, so good. Just a possibility, may be easier than shifting pic's elsewhere. Even $14.95 beats the crap outa $300 or more.

So basically what you are saying is you somehow-last-minute got grandfathered into a sweet deal so you get another year... but this helps us how exactly? :flipoff:

Sounds fishy anyway but even if true you are just rubbing it in.

No, not another year, first time buyer. I've been a free user 'til then. Not tryin' to nose-up either, just suggesting to check into a cheapo plan cause it seems to work as well as a $$$ plan. I just got mine recently, so it may still be available that way.
You know me .... Jus' tryin' to be helpful. And CHEAP :D

95% of the time I just use the Tapatalk app.

Strangely enough Facebook works (although it's obviously not a good backup method, lol). Just click on an uploaded picture so it's full-screen, right-click and select "Copy image address", then click the "Insert Image" button on the reply panel and paste there...

It might be your browser... I just checked and it works in Chrome but not Edge... don't have any others installed...

Here's what it should look like in Chrome...
