After I sold my 1.9 Chevy I started looking for comp rig parts. The only problem I have is I keep finding myself in the scale section.

Then I saw this thread and started searching out all the GI Joe builds. I really really liked them. Then I stumbled on this GI Joe Jeep and knew I had to have one.

I picked up the majority of the stuff I need from the FS section here, the rest came from forum sponsers "thumbsup" . I found the jeep on ebay, NIB 2001 edition GI Joe for $75.00 with 20.00 shipping. I felt pretty lucky with the buy as most were going higher or had missing pieces.

My plan is to mimic the over all look of this one but I will use axial axles and tcase.

Here is a pic of the jeep as I have it now

I really had no idea how big these were until I held it in my own hands. The am huge.

I know what ya mean about it's size. Same thing I did here...got the box and was like "holy cow, this guy use a big enough box to ship"...then after opening the box realized that it just fit.

I'm very slowly working on mine...I have way too many plans to decide on certain things.

I'll be watching "thumbsup"

Alright, I got most my crap in yesterday so I started working on it. Im going to go ahead and post the first wave of pictures :flipoff:

Everything is going together smoothly, this should be a quicker build then my last. Yet still be cool. Im not going to go into a whole lot of detail in text, but if anyone has a question how I did something, dont be afraid to ask.

very nice progress. "thumbsup" im doing the exact same build (axial axles), but i can find a good place to mount the shocks on the body.

Damn. Just showed me up. In my defence I have to build a chassis.:)
That thing looks sick. The 2 I have are the ones with no removeable chassis.

that actually looks pretty sweet... never seen these before

Thanks man, I loved the other GI Joe builds.

team3six lol, I was actually watching that one and almost stole it from ya.

Im still amazed I spent that much on a toy. lol But you cant hardly find decent ones cheaper.

team_guahan very nice progress. im doing the exact same build (axial axles), but i can find a good place to mount the shocks on the body.

You need to make spacers that space the shock out on the axle so you can clear the body. If you dont all it will do is bind up. I see some mount the rear shocks inboard and drill holes in the bottom of the body and mount them where the back seat goes.

calikingcrawler Damn. Just showed me up. In my defence I have to build a chassis.

Haha, Im not showing anyone up. You have it alot harder then I do with the body you are using. The one I have is so simple, no real fabing other then some easy measurements for mount holes.

I actually got the shocks mounted and the drive line finished. I had to make an extendo drive shaft for the rear "thumbsup"

I also ordered some wheel wideners for this piece. Axial axles are too narrow for the look I want, but an extra inch over will fix it.

awesome...... these are the MOST fun

welcome to the club (we need a GI Joe GTG)

hey MONITORS....I think we need a "GI Joe Willys" section "thumbsup"

LMAO @ your driver and side kick.

Where did you find those two??

Progress looks good. "thumbsup"

Got them off the bay. Search 1 6 and theres tons even have the real life female dolls ;)

Offroader5 Pretty soon...since there are so many of us building these things, there could at some point be a large scale Willys class at comps.

Just replace the Super class with these

Dakillswitch Looks great
love the tire&wheel combo on it

Thanks, I think they are the tallest 2.2s at 5.52 inches.

I agree a GI Joe section would be sweet.

Yep, that would make searching for all the builds so much easier.
