Hopefully it won't be much longer I'll have some nice shiny machined parts for the front end and can get started on building
That's what I'm going after! That truck doesn't seem to have flared fenders? Just cut out quite a bit.

It does just not crazy aggressive. I think he was running like 3.5 to 4 inch bulge. I was that you posted up on dezert rangers, look in the updated pics thread theres enough in the to boogle the mind.

Well things are progressing slowly. Next week looks to be an eventful week for this project. We'll see.
Cab wall is coming along. A little more bondo work and it'll be done.

Well things are progressing slowly. Next week looks to be an eventful week for this project. We'll see.
Cab wall is coming along. A little more bondo work and it'll be done.
This came in today. I think it should toss this truck around pretty easily

so... are you using a narrowed ford 9" rear end? i dont think theres too many r/c axles that will contain that beast!!

Bullet Proof Axles:
I start with axial housings. I machine the spool and axle out of O1 tool steel. The O1 is heat treated approximately to Rockwell C 30. This makes for a very tuff material. I then pressed the 1/4 dia axle into the spool (making one piece :wink
. The axle will not turn in the spool "thumbsup". I machine the rear axle lockouts out of 6061-T6 aluminum and use green seal Boca bearings. The green seals allows the bearing to run in any condition. I can very the length of the rear axle lockouts and the axles to match any width I need :mrgreen:.
To finish up I drilled and taped the axle ends for 4mm SHCS. Then made a quick hub for the Axial wheel
To top it all off I installed Axials High Perf of ring and pinion (pic shows stock cast aluminum ring gear).
I would change one thing. In the picture it shows drive pins. This was a quick and easy fix. I would do something diff. To much of a weak link for me.
I have yet to put the axle to good use but now I have plans with a 1:6 03 Dodge Ram body. Maybe a 4 x 4 pulling truck :twisted:.

Not a big update but some progress. Got to make a mess in the shop tonight. Cutting these frame rails in half was not fun....... They're not close to even either so that'll be fun evening out. Anyway, couldn't help myself. Had to do some mock ups.
I thought these wheels would work out night since they're good to scale but they look odd right now. Maybe after the flared fenders are on and the wheels are cleaned up and painted.
I put the bed on just to see how much extra the fenders will need. Looks about right,
Next will be getting the frame rails smoother out and brazing in the cross bars. Maybe getting the motor and trans mounted and making body mounts.

HOLY HELL!!!, while im not a fan of ford, this is looking to be one BAD ASS ford! that friggen moter looks like you stole the starter off a KW.( ok maybe that's an exaggeration, looks more the size of a Briggs and Stratton starter, but you get my point)
