RC4WD Gelande II D110 Truck Kit w/Hard Body build/review

So I'm doing some thinking on my way to a band concert for my sister, and I went on JoAnne's.com and found these balsa sheets. They're a good length, scaled up they are 240" by 40" which is about 20 feet by 3.33333333333333333333333333333333333333 (you get the point.....) feet.

The actual 1999 Dodge Ram 3500 is 6.4' tall and 20.3' long. So the 24"x4" should be fine. BUT (there's always a "but") the sheets are 1/16" thick and I want at least 3/4"......

These are the sheets I'm talking about- Basswood 24'' Sheet-15PK/1/16''x4'' at Joann.com

If I can find a pack of 24"x4"x3/4-1" sheets of wood I'll be golden. But 1/16 won't give me much room for detail without gluing 2-3 sheets together, which will mess with the shaping of the body's contours... So I'm annoyed quite a bit.

Grrrr......

On a another sad note- I've not found tires and wheels. Being a 99' 3500, it's gotta be a dually. But the only dually rims I've seen are crazy expensive.... The RC4WD Double Trouble "3" Aluminum Dually 1.9" Wheels are $140 without coupon and i don't have that much right now lol. Then I'd also need new tires....so I guess I'll stick with a 2500 (basically a 3500 body but without the dually rears) until I can get a new set of rims.

Your planning to make the body out of wood?
That i gotta see lol

Does anyone know where i can order a set of screws for this d110
I dont like the kit screws its weak as hell

I've noticed that the screws are infamous for being made with weak materials.... Everything else is made with high quality materials but the screws are sh#t lol

So for this body, I have my tire of choice, my rim of choice (I'm deciding on a color once I pick a paint scheme, it might just be a silver to look like the stock rims on the full sized rig), and my year/make/model of choice all set.

So now the main problem- I'm not driving a rig with a wood body without paint on it. I'm thinking a dark silver for the main body and a TF2 bumper for the front. I'm thinking I won't have rear body posts, and just make a system where the body gets attached by magnets on the underside of the bed, and I'm gunna put 2 holes in the front bumper of the wood body so when I want to put the body on, I have to unscrew the 2 set screws for the bumper, take the bumper off, and lift the from of the truck up to access the chassis.

This is what I mean:

>inb4 "bad editing" I know, I did it on my iPad on the Notability app that I'm SUPPOSED to use solely for school but whatever....

I forgot to add this to the last post- but I also have acquired these...for a lack of a better term....nipple lights? They are little tiny lights that I installed on my moms old minivan when her gauge cluster backlight went out. Turn out I had an extra pack lying around, and I looked that the picture I posted in the post right above this one, and saw those orange overhead lights on the cab. The lights I have are blue, but I'm fine with blue lights over orange lights, it'll still look awe-mazing.

I really want school to be over so I can start on this shell.....

So since I have nothing better to do right now, I'm going to attempt to carve out a rough model of a 1500 (not sure I'll have room for the dually fenders) out normal old bar of soap. Remember the polar bears you made back in Boy Scouts? Same deal, only this isn't a bear lol

You never realize how much you DONT know what you're doing once you start doing it..... I've been carving this little bar of soap for almost and hour and I have no clue wtf I'm doing...I'm not even done the hood lol

Front bumper

Bumper holder sits to close to the body
So i left the old bumper in place
As a shim :D
Ill probably hack that old bumper someday

I'd say a dummy winch, because a rear bumper is almost useless, because it KILLS your departure angle. On my scx10, I don't run bumpers and I swear the tires are the farthest forward on my rig. And my departure angle is killer. My breakaway is pretty bad but a lift kit and some bent links should fix that. Once my scx becomes a true "scale truck" with the leaf springs and the fancy axles under a custom made 3500HD shell, then I will care about bumpers. But not now.

But yeah, a winch would be better. A dummy winch would be best, because as you've stated before, this IS a shelf queen so it won't see any real need for a working winch....

Oh no no no
This maybe a shelf queen but i will not buy a dummy winch
I want everything to be in working condition :D
Just incase ill changed my mind about it being a shelf queen

I think ill get one of those tamiya semi truck
I have always wanted one of those semi
But i wouldnt know what or how to put it together
I found on ebay tho an rtr for about 1400

When you decide to change it to a beater, swap on the working electronics. It's not like you're gunna use a winch anyways.........

ERMEGERD! Stop buying every RC I have on my want list. I swear, if you buy a FIVE-T.....

I'm kidding, but I will hate you with a passion.............. I've always wanted a D110 but $600 is high for a 15 year old with a minuscule income, a FIVE-T but $1200 is even worse, and a Tamiya semi is plausible but I don't have the cash right now. That might be next, do a dump truck conversion on a King Hauler....

But first- school! Sarcastic yay! I haven't even touched my scx10 in a month, let alone drive it... I just stare at it before I go to sleep at night, every night....

Oh a im not in to gas or nitros anymore
As i get older it gives me migraine headache ( fumes ) lol

Uh so your 15
I was just like you when i was that young
Wishing wishing for rc wishing for money so i can buy it lol
Dont be in a hurry to grow up and have money
Youll get there someday and be able to get what ever you want

be able to get what ever you want

Bahahahahaha..... If I get 6 digits a year I'll be able to get "whatever you want" since I want a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT (with a v12 twin turbo of course...)

:flipoff: lmao

Otherwise, yes. I want wait til I have a MUCH higher income, average 22.5 a week isn't cutting it for the rigs I want to get lol. I am aiming for a D110, a fully "built" SCX10 (I'm axles, a transfer case, and a body away from having that completed....), and both a 35cc Losi five-T and a second one with a brushless swap on it. I'd be happy with just those 4 rigs, D110 for TTC, SCX10 for "bashing on the trails", gas 5t for outside track at the lhs and electric just for S&G if you know what I mean... Lol
