Religulous ~

Duuuuuude, the problem with debates in forms like the internet and why these debates fail is we all act big online. I don't know you, you don't know me theory. So debating online fails everytime that I've attempted.

I would only see this debate as a failure if absolutely nothing productive came out of it and only one side was voiced.

Has something productive come out of it? Sure. I can't speak for everyone, but I've gathered some more points to ponder.

Has it been one sided? Kind of, and that is a bit dissapointing to me. From what I can tell, and maybe I missed something obvious, but so far the only ones that have contributed have been the non-believers, fence sitters, and a few that feel they don't need to defend their beliefs. There's nothing wrong with those, I'm still holding out for the religiously faithful to voice an intelligent opinion on the matter.

It also has no definite end, unless it were to be completely deleted from the database. If it has no end, there is no winner. It can't fail if its not over.

Zietgeist is good to see...there's others. Though I've seen a few very compelling Intelligent Design movies. Want to wrap your head around something read books by Sam Harris very good author at getting some sensitive ideas across in a still light manner. Or dive deep into the pain of comprehension with Richard Dawkins.

Ah, Richard Dawkins. Seen bits and clips of him before. Interesting stuff.

I'm flip flopping my reading material from one side to the other and all points in between.

I've tried reading the Old Testament several times (I own 6 for some reason...), but the language leaves me behind. I need to keep finding a version that I can keep up with.

The last book I finished was "God Is Not Great", which was a really good athiest based book, and currently I'm in the middle of "How to Know God" which looks at God from a scientific and phsycological perspective. Its also very good.

I think I might try Dianetics next if I can find it out here, though I'm pretty sure its going to have to come from eBay...lol

Proof there's a god.

I"ll be honest with you, I was preparing a long post and decided not to go through with it. I have no problem defending my beliefs before anyone or discussing religion. I don't think the Internet is the best place for it or worth my time.

Is the internet the best place for this? Probably not, but look at it this way: nobody's gonna throw a chair at you for speaking what you believe. "thumbsup"

lol...like I've never punched out a long post...;) I respect your decision to do so, its your time and effort, but I will ask you to reconsider. You and I have touched on this subject before and you gave me the impression that you are educated and a follower, but not crazy fanatical.

The floor is yours if you want it.

anyone hear that God is outlawing pit bikes?

also, there has to be a God because I have a very small penis and the only explanation is that God has a very good sense of humor...

every time I pee I laugh, look to the heavens and say "you got me, did'nt you"

I believe in God, I feel no obligation to justify my faith.

If you want to believe in a little fat man, a rubber chicken or that your ancestors were a monkeys, that's cool. I support your right to believe or not believe as you choose.

Thank you!

So do I, but as Dez said I dont need to go out and push my beliefs on people. I haven't been a Christian my whole life, only about a year. But one thing I hated was when people tried to push their religion on me and make me feel like I am stupid if I don't follow their path.

It seems like everybody thinks that all Christians are horrible, lying hypocrites. But that isn't the way it is with everyone. It's just like the offroad world.. a handful of crazy drunks go out on the trails and ruin it for everyone by getting it closed down. As there are a handful of Christians that aren't fully living for Him, and they create a bad impact for everyone else. Alright.. I'm done! Haha

I couldn't agree with you more. Of the people that I've met in my lifetime that were openly and proudly Christian, 95% have been jerks about it. That certainly doesn't do much to promote your faith.

It also doesn't help when you're asked to trust someone because they're a "good Christian" right before they bend you over and take you for all they can.

I do believe that the majority go quietly about thier lives in relative peace with those around them. But it still makes a person a bit gun shy...

Are Christians horrible people? Certainly not. Its just the loud ones.
