ROMAD's "Dookie Bomb" build thread

Re: ROMAD's "Ground Pounder" build thread

I just hope I can sand it down and make the frame look clean prior to paint and skin.

A dremel is your friend for that aspect...

Build looks good, actually gonna have to try that axle mount. Must of missed that part of Jackalopes build...

Keep the pics coming...

Re: ROMAD's "Ground Pounder" build thread

Hey Romad, looking forward to some progress photos this weekend.

Re: ROMAD's "Ground Pounder" build thread

They will be posted. I appreciate all your help with the CAD drawings. Definitely helped with the mock up before I started bending. And yea, I keep the Dremel handy"thumbsup"

Re: ROMAD's "Ground Pounder" build thread

Jahreds F250 build has some very similar axle mounts. Jackalopes look a little different but the concept came from his build. Jahred used the same angle aluminium as I did, but kept the mount location directly above the axle like Jackalope. I offset mine so I can flip them if I get longer shocks.

Pretty bummed. The JB weld did NOT hold and now I am looking at a peg/hole setup with the JB weld.I think the JB will work but it doesnt bond well with the tube surface. I will get it all lined out and show pics but they won't be up till sunday at the earkiest... sorry guys:cry:

Re: ROMAD's "Ground Pounder" build thread

Alright, here are some pics of the mock- up phase. Feel free to give me feedback. I will take all the help I can get.

I have more Misc. bars to add to give it a more realistic look and the skins will cover most of the Bullseye chassis.

Re: ROMAD's "Ground Pounder" build thread

This go around I didnt get impatient with the Weld so I think it has had time to bond. It looks like most people are just using small zip ties to skin their buggies, should I use glue or ties? suggestions? Pro's/Con's???

Zip ties are what a lot of bodiless chassis guys use. They're cheap and easy to replace if necessary, but at the same time hold decently well. If you want to go the nicer route, braze on some m3 locknuts on various points of the chassis and mount your body panels to those using 3mm screws.

Re: ROMAD's "Ground Pounder" build thread

Of Course, I have broken the JB weld so this idea may be getting scrapped.... I do not have a welder or the skills to weld, so I may be going body/paint. I was enjoying doing everything on the cheap but looks like gonna havta drop some loot to finish this thing out. Body, rims shocks etc....

 Hah! Surprise name change. And YOU thought we weren't paying attention.:)

So a weld or two didn't hold. There was a guy on here who built an entire truggy cage out of plastic straws. And even did his own Fail testing for strength. Really quite impressive. What I'm getting at is, don't completely abandon your idea. Think outside the box and you might make it work. Maybe a glue instead of an epoxy? Sleeve couplings? Plasti-dip the entire cage? etc. etc.

LOL, I realized that there was an actual Redcat "Ground Pounder" model so I swapped the title. I haven't completely given up i just put the hummer body on and will ride for awhile. I don't think a Brazing setup is too expensive. Just got to get my wife to ease up. The whole" $50 more for a remote control toy?!?" is getting old. Little steps.

Also ever since I installed the CC BEC my crawler starts up as soon as the batt. is connected. alls the onn/off switch does is really speed up Fan rpm?? What does that imply?

Your crawler shouldn't fully power up as soon as the battery is plugged in. The BEC routes power straight from the battery to the servo(s), so as soon as that battery is plugged in, it's normal for the receiver and the servos to have power to them, but you shouldn't have throttle until you turn the ESC on. If only your servo and receiver have power to them with the ESC off...that's normal with a BEC. Your fan also might turn on, it's been ages since I ran the stock ESC, so I can't remember if the fan ran with the power off or not.

I beleive the fan does turn on. There are a couple of ways to wire a bec. I tried the way the castle creations bec package says too. It gave me similar symptoms to what you have. There is another way where you hook the servos directly to the bec, that I think works a bit better. But you should still unplug your battery when not driving.

I was reading the F1 Fitty build thread and saw where he soldered parts on his frame... Anyone got any idea how I can head the tubing up enuff ti solder it. i tried with my 10 dolla soldering iron and it was pretty pointless.
