Servo Upgrade Question!

You can run the 20/25kg cheapo servos without a BEC but having done that and also running a Savox Monster on a stock TRX-4 w/HeyOK and it's a world of difference - but also $125+ more. Personally I'd save for at least a BEC and mid-grade servo, the stock servo is good enough for starting out - I didn't find the 20kg servo I have to be a noticeable change. I do like having one in my toolbox as a spare though.

I have used a few of the 21kg servos and have managed to break the gears or fry the board.
Apparently I am tough on my truck.

Last year my friend turned me on to this servo by JX Servos.
It is the 45kg waterproof one and it has been flawless so far over many many trips to the rocks.
Here is the link that I bought it from:
https://www.asiatees.com/display?JX...brand=Miscellaneous&model=All&id=157146&pid=1

It is a digital brushless servo and at the 6.0v that my esc is putting out it only has a rating of 515oz.
At 7.4v it would put out 625oz, way more than I need.

I liked it so much I just bought another one for my fancy unicorn build.

Here is an image of the new one and its specs.
The other servo still has great numbers and it will go into my Clodbuster.

Would I be better off with the Traxxas BEC or the one I solder in? Been a while since I’ve done all of this . If I get the Hobbywing ESC can I get away without running the BEC? As far as budget, I’d like to spend no more than 100, but sounds like you guys vouching for the less expensive PowerHD servos. I may be better off just giving one of those a go for my Defender and Blazer

Under no circumstance would I ever recommend someone install the Traxxas BEC. It is only rated at 6v 3a output and at $40 it is way overpriced. By comparison the CC 10a BEC is programmable voltage and 10a output for $24. The HW 1080 is also rated at 3a but can be programmed at 6v or 7.4v. Be advised the TRX4 receiver and shift servos are only rated for 6v so you will need to keep the 1080 at 6v. I have not had any issues running the Savox 1230SG off the HW1080 ESC with no external BEC.
