Stormer Hobbies...

The great thing about Stormer is that they always had the little things that you could never find anywhere else. As bob mentioned, they have 150 novak items. I don't think there is any other place that has that many Novak items listed. Plus they always had apperal too. Great Prices and fast shipping. I ordered a ton of things from them until we finally got a LHS.

"thumbsup"Thanks and keep it up.

Tom

My only issue is their website, just not up to par with even small Crawling only vendors. I even shop online impulsively and their search feature is just not letting me buy things I normally would from their competitors due to search results pulling up things I might try.
The easy way around this is to window shop on Tower, Horizon, or a manufacturer's website, acquire part numbers and go to Stormer's site and put in the part numbers.

The nice thing about Stormer's is that they carry almost all brands, so I can order Hobbico and Horizon items at the same time.

Skeeno, I've actually heard mention of that style of searching before. Our site is VERY part number friendly. If you have a piece of the part number, likely you'll find what you need very quickly.

We discuss it all the time. What could be done to get people to what they need more quickly.

I will add though that anybody that really takes the time to learn the search tool, is rewarded with positive results. I think Towers search is actually very good. one box, takes part numbers, descriptions, whatever.

Ours is more targeted, with multiple ways to search.

You know what else makes searching for parts difficult? manufacturers that give their parts stupid names for the same item. I'll give a few examples. You're looking for a washer from Traxxas, turns out they call it a shim, so you can't find it. Dogbone, cvd, cva, axle, are all the same item depending on who made it. That can be tough to find. Header instead of manifold, tie-rod instead of turnbuckle, rim or wheel. Everybody uses similar but different jargon to differentiate their parts. This can make any part hard to find.

Usually whatever the manufacturer calls the item, or the actual description on the box or bag is what we go with. The rationale is that it's likely what's in your manual, and you'll have better chance of finding it. That and we try to use the EXACT manufacturers part number.

That way, if you're looking for a Losi a5015, simply typing in 5015 in our part number search is going to find it for you. :)

Thanks for reading. I can get a bit wordy. 8)

Bob, its not the function of the search I find a problem with. You are right, type in a part number or more directed search to exactly what I want....BOOM there it is fast. This is how I've always bought from you guys, directed needs.

What I normally do is troll the other sites and click link to link on recommended and hop up links and where used to basically stroll the store to buy more.

I will say you get alot of my business since you stock both Losi and Traxxas at much lower prices than the only other main "store" that carries both full lines of Traxxas and Losi parts.

One thing that I would advise for the stormer site would be to categorize everything (yes, I know it's a huge undertaking) and have links to those categories somewhere on the main page. I sometimes like to troll around for stuff, not looking for anything in particular. The stormer site isn't particularly conducive this kind of aimless trolling. That said, the search tool is top notch (and well documented) for specific shopping.
Other than that, the only other thing about the site I can say is that it's fairly bland. Double edged sword there, it loads quick, but a little eye candy probably helps hook the new customer. Good prices though.

Edit: I say I like the site on the whole, then I go to look up some stuff and it's down. I know, its late and they're probably doing maintenance. Still, I should keep my damn mouth shut.

A couple of small things I would change if it were me...

Show customers the shipping price before they enter their CC # or before they have to set up an account.

Set it up to accept Paypal.

Yep, down every morning from 2-3 am for updates, backups, etc. Every single day at that time. :)

Some of that is also what makes it load fast (so they tell me from the I.T. department). :)

Appreciate all the thoughts and ideas.

welcome stormer its good to see such a large vendor so in touch with "the people" and realize what a dogbone, cvd or cva really is and your not one of those giant distributor/manufacturer who cant carry radio "F" because you make radio "A". that part of the hobby industry has really been tarnished from what people look at buying as to the parts support. i was just looking at tower a month ago for some kyosho blizzard parts and i guess i was just stupid because they no longer have kyosho. for years if anybody ever wanted a kyosho part they knew where to go and then bam its gone.

This is a good idea.... I want to see shipping but don't want to put my credit card info in to create an account yet...

Bob, are you still racing the lawn tractors?

I ordered from your old magazine ads years ago...was great to place an order with people who actually know R/C, not some college intern on a summer job like a certain Illinois-based company. ;-) I'm looking forward to doing business with you again!

Speaking of which... do you have any info on price and availability of the HPI Wheely King crawler conversion set?

My only suggestion (to all vendors with a website) is to put a link to your website in your signature file. I've had to google many a website while looking at a post written by the owner, which just doesn't make sense from an advertising point of view.

Just my 2 yen.
