Pre-Axialfest, I was under the impression the YETI was going to be a solid axle, U4 Rock racer that followed the U4RC Rock Racing series, based off a steel original one –off chassis<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
I mean, most of us read the hype, saw the colors and Posts from Axial, Facebook even has Fan pages dedicated to the ....YETI....but the thing I didn't understand was where should the credit be given? I mean this truck isn't even out yet..... {Tower Aug, 2014 release}<o:p></o:p>
Yes, Axial is great, their trucks are golden for most of us, and I have zero complaints from their out of the box trucks... (They lasted way longer stock than your Wild Willy back in '88) but the thing is, where the hell did this thing come from? <o:p></o:p>
U4RC racing is a hit, the Big Boys are definitely, making moves with the "Beast" …. MIKE the DOC…, a very scale and solidly planted U4 scale tuber, and Mattzilla,… LUE…. the industry standard steel Wraithzilla, chassis, in 3 or more versions, I see these guys, setting the pace for awhile. <o:p></o:p>
So, where does the Yeti sit? As for the "Yeti" as a hybrid of the many EXO Buggy's, Ive personally chopped, cut, countersunk and configured…. (without instructions) mounted an EXO Pan and wraith skid and chassis to make an IFS Hybrid 2.2 crawler/rock racer.. {Independent Front Suspension for Dummies} now becomes the production model from Axial.<o:p></o:p>
Now, personally where does the credit go? Ive seen them as sooo many versions of these custom hybrids, I have to mention the Godfather, JASON IN AUGUSTA…. (AKA J.I.A) As the founding father, I have to “LIKE” this even if it wasn’t my Post. Huge S/O to J.I.A…….!!!!!!<o:p></o:p>
{Like this for the same S/O, even if you’ve ever owned a VTH}<o:p></o:p>
Anyhow, History aside I have to give credit where credit is due. Lest we forget where the simple idea cut and hand fabbed out of Hawaiian Hotel room now sparks a whole new RTR?<o:p></o:p>
Shoot, noobs aside, Not me!<o:p></o:p>
Although, I am a Fan of Axial, I am NOT a fan of anything RTR. So, I gonna build my own my way from scratch no instructions, a few part numbers and some help from Sponsors… (I hate figuring screws the biggest time waster!!) <o:p></o:p>
Introducing my latest U4RC Rock racer….. <o:p></o:p>

Yeti Essential Chassis Parts.

Parts list is huge and I will add them as I go. Parts are compliments of my Build Sponsor, CKRC Hobbies

We had a quick fix and we were back up running. Note to self, center set screw needs thread lock I had to flip the lid thou and see what was under her skirt anyhow. Yeti, your such a girl.

Theres quite a few parts to this thing and I can appreciate the engineering into it so far.
Rear Trailing arms are pretty sick too. They look strong and have some twist to them without being brittle. Dual holes allow you to mount dual shocks but since no one has 140mm Trailing arms available yet, I opted to install some traxxas pivot balls into them.

The Currie parts are not in for the rear axle yet so I used a donor Wraith Rear axle and found the upper link mount will need to be dremeled since the outer ball arm is way bigger than a wraith link mount. Not sure if the YETI upper mount will be the same or not.

Everything went together nicely.

I would've thought that someone who wanted to teach a history class would have done their homework on the subject first so they don't end up looking like a noob, noob.

JIA is a great guy, I have nothing against him, I originally posted this in the "axial making a fast rig" thread to clear up the inception with the creation dates of the below threads.

IMO the "credit" should go to Axial for originally coming up with the concept and JIA for bringing the visibility of the hybrid EXO/Wraith to the masses at RCC and showing Axial that there is a market for the "Yeti".

Hmmm...two years from hotel to Axialfest.

That's not the way I see it according to the dates in these threads/posts from Axial and you.

Without the wraith and the EXO, JIA would have had nothing to cut up and make into something else. (The EXO came out of nowhere basically, with nothing else like it, even in kit-bashed form.)

FWIW, I was working on my IFS Wraith in late 2011 (using HPI IFS bits), but the project was put on the back-burner and I didn't post anything until 03/13.

As far as I can remember, Harley's Ultra4400 was the first U4 styled rig to hit the forums back in March 2010. The other builders that produced steel cages and custom builders just furthered the genre.

Let's not forget all the PRO4 style builds that were hacked together from different kits. That was 08/09 era. That was where the IFS Solid Rear with trailing arms came from.

Kit bashing has always been a part of this hobby, and is something I really enjoy (my Project wringo has wraith, honcho, and dingo cage pieces).
Really, this whole website would be different if it weren't for the kit bashers in 04/05 trying to make a TLT and Wheely King crawl better and look more scale.

So, really credit is hard to pinpoint because it has been the accumulation of builds and inspiration throughout the years that led to the Yeti. (And of course the 1:1 Ultra4 rigs probably have something to do with it too.)

The Axial development probably started with Bender's Wrexo build. I'm pretty sure that was the basis for development, and all of the other wrexo based builds just added momentum to show that the concept could be a hit.
Now, with the Yeti kit, those that don't have the drive or skill to kit bash can drive something like this and have some fun. Those that do want to kit bash are going to bash away and make something else new. (I already have an idea in mind, just got to get my hands on one to get started.)

Also, what is 'abomidable'? Abominable was probably what you were shooting for.

Looks like it is the same part number so I am not sure what they are doing with the RTR to make the link fit.

Pricing out the parts and pieces you would need to piece the Yeti cage and chassis together comes to over $300, and that price does not include drivetrain pieces, that is just for all the parts to put together the chassis, cage and body/interior. For that price, I think it would be worth it to wait for the RTR to be released. You know there are going to be some RC chop shops buying these to take apart and sell pieces from.
I'm sure you aren't paying retail prices on these parts though, so I am curious how much more than the RTR you spend getting this together.

Hell if we really want to get into some history...

The first IFS/SA rear to really gain any traction was Ryan Gerrish's Hybrid build that started in 2009. In all honesty it is one of the closest builds to a Yeti of all the examples give. Using parts of a plastic tub and building the rest from there. It can be found here: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/2-2-scale-rigs/218237-2010-dorkstar-hybrid.html

After that, Jerry from the DMG build a number of full custom chassis rigs with Slash 4x4 front ends.

And yes, here is one that Jerry from the DMG started for me in 2010, which I later traded to Axial.

Ahem... It's "you're".

Not saying I disagree with you, just saying.
Haha, fixed. I was in a hurry and didn't care much because the person I was commenting to doesn't know the difference either. :ror:
