The Class 1 discussion thread

Nostalgia class = 1.9

My thoughts exactly, 1.9 comp class

Course design has been a big issue in Nor-cal. People have been talking about forever. The courses are just too ridiculous. Novice courses would NEED to be built. IMO insane courses have driven away more people than any other reason. Hell, it's why I stopped competing.

I hear you there man, reason i am running 1.9 comps and scalers only. I also got tired of updating my rig every comp to be competitive:shock:. Different courses for the class is a must IMO. This class does really intrest me though, i dont even have a 2.2 rig anymore because i was turned off with all the bull the 2.2 class curently has, but i would consider a purchase if my local club had a class like this.

Well I've started a Scale club but would like to compete again in a similar class. I don't care if USRCCA brings the idea to Nats or not. I'd just like to have fun crawling again. I think I'll add this class to my club if there's enough interest.

I like what you decided. Nice job Ken. I'll have to check in with you and see how it goes. I'll have to show it to my club too and see what they think.

Other than the weight limit I am sure a lot of the guys would fit both classes.

Kinda dig the weight limit. Might limit breakage with guys running stock or non Ti servos. I am sure just a wheel swap will make it work for existing runners. Maybe VP superlights will work here. LOL!

I think the people in the club are all too new... Mnster and I are the only 2 "old guys" almost all the rest have only been in it since first of 08 or so and have the idea that people should be willing to throw money at the trucks and have the newest stuff out there. I read the threads of the BIG clubs out west and must say I get jealous when they are able to run classes like this and rock racers classes.

Our Turnout has dropped off this year thanks to the economy and I had hoped a budget minded class would help... oh well, Im not going to give up yet.

I completely agree. Our club is small but the guys are pretty serious competitors and most have bergs. We had people show up to comps with stock axials, comp one time and never return. It was the fault of us club members to not reach out better to them. What we need to do, and now there has been some discussion, is create a 2.2 sportsman class. Something more low buck, shafty only and with some limitations to keep it low buck, simple and fun.

I have talked with other club members around the country who had growing clubs. I was told that once there members started building and competing with berg axle'd rigs, the size of the attendance was cut by almost half in some areas. I don't think it's so much about competing and winning as it is about having fun. If you can't complete courses and you keep getting beat by bergs with $1K or more invested into them, where's the fun? At that point competition crawling has now become 1/8 scale buggy, truggy or sedan racing. It's almost about what equipment you have first, and how good you drive second.

I was rc rock crawling months before I joined RCC with a somewhat scale 2.2 because you could do it anywhere. It got you out into nature and it had no formal structure. You didn't have to pay to practice, pay to race, etc. Add in the current world's fiasco and other drama and more people will walk away unless some new classes or a new sanctioning body is created. It's sad to see this happen so fast to RC rock crawling. Although I am thankfully not part of the crawlinati or OG establishment, I liked it better two years ago.

Other than the weight limit and battery placement it looks good...

Tuning and driving skill should be where it's at. those rules IMO limit the tuning aspect, but dont really cost more.

No dig, and shafty only would bring out drivers I think.

Otherwise I like the concept "thumbsup"

I'd love to see a limited 2.2 class.

No dig, (and no 4ws obviously), otherwise same as the current "unlimited" 2.2 class and run 'em.

A entry level/affordable 2.2 class are two things that are not in most clubs current strategic plan. Chasing a unlimited class is the only current option and is basically for those who find value and satisfaction in always owning outdated equipment.

I agree on both weight and battery placement.

But I really do like this idea it could be very refreshing for the grass roots level and help with club growth.

Racing at a national level is only for a small percentage of people in this hobby most of us don't have the desire to make that kind of commitment but that is currently the only option.

The biggest problem with this idea is that if you start doing it in the smaller clubs (say clubs with less than 20-30 people at every comp) than you will be too divided and there will be little to no competition in one of the two classes. This is an even worse thing for club growth.

Overall I think no matter what it is pretty much always going to end up the same way. People who aren't competitive are going to bitch about whatever the current situation is.

Compete to win, thats why it's a competition. Effort should be rewarded.

Man up and drive these 2.2 no dig trucks with the rest of the girls!
