So one day while at my Grandma-in-law's house it occurred to me that her unused ,unloved backyard would be a great place to setup a scaler/crawler course. At this point my son was waiting to earn his SCX10 Rubicon so we did not even have a crawler at all but we decided to start building any way. Its a pretty large yard and we are only using about 1/5 of it so far.
To this point all the wood and supplies used were either scap wood I had from previous projects, and Craigslist finds. We have yet to buy anything other then the shade tarp ($10 at HF).
So here is the yard last summer when we started. We had a board bridge we had made, a couple logs, and a couple rocks.
We then collected some more logs, some donated rocks from my moms house, and a homemade shade to protect us from the sun.
Next was some broken concrete chunks. Using some pipe we found in the yard we built a small bridge to nowhere and started carving some trenches.
Then came Fall and Winter. The rain grew back all the ground cover weeds. Our shade did a great job collecting water and then collapsed. We changed our bridge to a rope bridge and started setting it up. The whole setup still looks pretty sad here. We also collected some more blocks. This my pic gives an idea of half the yards size too.
At this point my son had his Rubicon and only ran it a couple times on flat grass.

Lots of school projects and life in general kept us away for a while but we are back at it. Here is where we are at today. He have added a second bridge. Lots more rock and blocks. I started making an obstacle from a 35in circle of plywood and my son said it looked like a taco. Taco Rock was born.
There is a lot more planned and a lot more to do. I will keep updating and get some video.
