The unofficial official axial portal buggy.

Very cool! I'm anxious to try out the dig.

So you're the designer?

Yes, I tend to stay more in the background here, but am very excited that we can finally bring this product to market. It has been bouncing around in my head for years and years...

Awesome! Dream job. Good work. I really like this design. I think it would be cool if you would join the discussion.

I don't know if you had anymore free reign on this design (it kinda seems like you did), but I'm sure you appreciate the improved materials as much as I do.

I've been researching and mulling over a new 1.9 crawler since June. Up until now, none of the new releases have got me really excited. Where I will be driving and crawling, portals are beneficial. The Capra seems like it crawls so much better than a trx4. I'm excited about the Capra!

I wonder if the nicely compact and low gearbox, with those stout, metal gears, will fit my SMT10. ( We probably do not get another true-to-scale monstertruck from Axial in the foreseeable future, so, I want to make my own ‘SMT10v2’ )

No tires included.

I like it - lots of improvements over previous kits... and the fact that it's a kit...

X2 "thumbsup"

I can see touches of TLR in the Capra: knurled shock caps, grey rod ends, shorty pack, and metal inserts. Pretty serious stuff here.

Yes, thankfully so!

Looks like some significant quality improvements over any prior Axial stuff. Hopefully this begins carrying over to the rest of their lineup.

hallelujah on metal hollow balls!!!
im really liking this kit, BUT not a fan of the one piece axles. ill probably order one though.

Rod ends and SS balls looks great, nice that the balls are centered and have little flange at both ends too!

Axial has been listening. I've personally sworn them off with the garbage they have been releasing over the last few years, but this seems different and Axial should be commended for their effort here.

Thank you for listening, Horizon/Axial. I think I'm going to take a chance on one of these.

Me three! "thumbsup":ror:

Yes, we will have an overdrive gear set for the front axle...just couldn't get it out in time. We'll have more info soon.

Awesome! "thumbsup"

In any of my TLR race vehicles, I never felt the need to upgrade c-hubs, steering knuckles/bearing carriers, etc. The stock Plastics on those Vehicles were always superb and held up great to years of racing.

Come to think of it, I don't think I ever replaced any of those parts on any of my vehicles. They are all original.

The Plastics on the new Capra will hold up well if they are the same TLR grade Plastics.

Yep. "thumbsup"

Ring and Pinion

Sweet! :)

I thought the same thing on the pre-order.. haha

There are inserts for both 23T and 25T servos included so you are covered.

And if anyone uses a 24T they are available for sale part # LOSA99042

Good. :)

You add weight to the wheels? Newb! :lmao: Just kidding, I sometimes still do that as well, but there are some people, for whatever reason, that bemoan it. On a slow, technical rig like this I will probably add some weight.

Anyway, only 2 ounces of weight added is damn impressive! At around 1:23 on the video my trucks would start flipping over backwards once the rear tire starts surmounting the the steep obstacle.

IMO plastic wheels (even this beadlock type) benefit greatly from about 2oz weight per wheel. :)

@Rich_Trujillo is the hardware still metric?

Thankfully, yes. :)

Also noticed that it looks like the entire grill can be removed and swapped out with just a couple screws, that's awesome! Easy to 3d print or styrene build your own grill complete with emblems! Sweet Stainless rods look to be L/R threaded as one end has little groove that usually denotes left-hand threads. Center hole for on vehicle fine tuning too, I need a set of these linkage rods with ends! Diggin the hidden body clips too! :)

I'm not a dig user, but I'm going to give it a shot with my Capra.
Can the dig be used to cut off the power to the back tires for steep climes so it pulls up rather than having the rear wheels spin it over backwards?

My dig experience is pretty limited (and on an entirely different platform), but for longer steep climbs, it did not work as well as I'd hoped. When the weight shifted to the rear while climbing, the front didnt get enough traction to drag the truck up. This could have been just because I did not have the truck set up quite right, or maybe it was simply me not being experienced enough with dig to use it properly. I didn't mess with it much. 4 wheel steer was more fun for me.

I stealded these off IG.

I wonder if the Capra skid bolts up under a Wraith cage & vice versa.

Closer look would suggest no on the wraith skid under the Capra cage.

Besides wanting to know the offset of the stock wheels, I have two other questions.

1. Will a 550 motor fit?
2. Are 25T metal inserts included for the servo horn?

- Wheels are the same offset of our current 1.9 wheels
- Not without modifications
- yes a 25T and 23T insert are includes for the steering servo arm.
