Traxxas Rock Crawler

Does anyone else get the feeling from that video that Traxxas has just produced the first RTR mass-produced rock racer?

Ill check it out at I hobby tomorrow(or Saturday) but from what I am seeing it seems to be a joke. The selectable diffs could be fun though.

The worst part is that kids will be showing up at comps wanting to run. The clubs will let them run in super class and then you'll be stuck hearing the complaining when they cant make the second gate.

The second gate? That thing wouldn't make it past the starting gates on our courses.

Thanks, Traxxas:roll::roll:

This may be a stupid question, but what is so "bad" about independent suspension? I realize that on a full size rig strength is a primary concern. But for an RC application those issues can easily be worked out. One of the benefits of independent suspension is the lack of torque twist since the pumpkin is attached to the chassis. You also have the benefit of having a higher center clearance. So why is an independent suspension so "bad" for an RC rock crawler?

Are they kidding? A glorified e-revo? Traxxas had the opportunity to to corner the super market and they indeed failed miserably. This is not even a crawler it is nothing more than a 4WD basher barely more capable than that nitro revo "crawler". And it's monster truck at that. Way to blow your market reasearch Traxxas.:lol::lol:

I disagree Rich. 8) I think the parts have tons of potential and it looks like a fun truck to me. Like an E-Revo and an old school super crawler combined into one truck. I wish it was a bit smaller though.

Don't get me wrong, as far as a basher I think this thing will a blast. I just think that if Traxxas was going to make an attempt to get into the crawler scene they should have made an actual crawler, not a e-revo with lockers.

Then Build one and compete with it! It has been done before, it is just difficult to get indep. susp. to work as well as solid axles. Some pro's 1:1 have tried it, but ended up back with solid axles. Here's a Walker Evans 1:1 build with IS.

The simplest reason is "articulation" without upsettling the weight center or chassis and solid axles just do it simply. Search or google and you will find much about this.

yeah, this is dis-appointing, BUT...

who's to say that traxxas ISN'T developing something solid axle? maybe traxxas decided to use an existing platform to try out some new part designs, and then based on how well they work, then they will make a solid axle housing to hold these parts.

besides, we have enough machinists and designers on this board, i am sure SOMEONE will come up with a few designs for a solid axle conversion to use those remote locking diffs...

Axle cases are SPENDY to machine is the biggest problem.

Besides.......................supers are dead, didn't anyone tell you guys?

Traxxas knows what they're doing. They use an existing platform to keeo their costs down. It has speed so it'll attract the bashers and a locking diffs to attract some crawlers.
This thing is gonna sell period.

Besides Traxxas never made a "race" specific vehicle, except for maybe the Revo. They target bashers & beginers not racers. So what makes you think that they would make a compitition level crawler?

Seriously guys the truck is cool for what it is. Basher, rock racer but it's not a crawler. It does have some potential though. Poulsen style axles w/selectable lockers!

Some of us are complaining about this because it's not a "rock crawler", but who is claiming it is. If you search through the Traxxas site about it, the word 'crawler' is never mentioned. Even the word rock is used sparingly just to describe the appearance of the body and what the tires can drive on, nowhere does it claim the truck is made to just crawl rocks, but to cover all terrains. Traxxas still refers to it as a MT - "Summit is the new standard for monster truck performance without limits".

I do agree with you all that this is not a crawler rig, but I don't think Traxxas is trying to claim that, who's to say they are not working on another solid axle crawler (2.2). With that, I like the new features for a basher, and let's hope that this new TQ4 will be a cheap 4 channel pistol alternative, that we can all mod like we do with our TQ3's.

Well said CC, Traxxas has always been about the recreational user and not competition. "thumbsup"
Besides, we talk about liking innovation and new ideas but when something isn't based off of what we already have, everybody hates on it. For some reason I really like the look and I can see these being fun for rock racing and trail riding. I'm thinking about building some solid axle tubes (maybe just the rear), narrowing the track width, and putting a tall 2.2 tire on it. The tranny begs to be used in a racer or fun scaler and the body looks cool imo.

That is what I was thinking too, great rock racer (potentially). A little large though.
