TRX4 Sport kit

So I went ahead and swapped out the Crawlmaster Expert for the Trailmaster 550 21T motor, and the gearing, 10pinion and 45 Spur. Upped voltage to 3S. I think a 12T pinion would be ideal, but it's fine. The 550 motor is definitely snappy.

All in all though, it's not that much different.

The first time I put it together I forgot to put the new pinion on the new motor, after putting the 45T spur in there. Oh boy was that noisy! LOL
Started with a 15t pinion and thought it would be great for a trail rig, but faster than I wanted. The 10 is good, but a tad slow, probly fine for rock crawling - it's very slow and precise. I may source a 12 or 13 just for giggles.

Really like the way this chassis works. It climbs all the tough stuff in our proving grounds.

So I’m about to pick up a Sport Kit and I see that there are the light buckets, but it doesn’t come with the LEDs. On the traxxas site it just says you need the full led kit which is like 60 bucks but it comes with the buckets too. Is there a part number for the leds and the controller that you need without the extra duplicate parts?

TIA.

A simple light kit with 2 white and 2 red 5mm LED's that plugs into the reciever will work fine. Can find them all over EBay for fairly cheap.

^^This.
And a simple one or two pole controller to plug into a third receiver channel, or a wired to battery with hand-remote, to turn lights on and off.

If you don't mind them being on when you power up you can plug directly into a receiver channel. Just watch your voltage ratings before you choose your method.

A very good domestic ebay source is lighthouse led's: Lighthouse LEDs | eBay Stores

I've bought a few strings and bulbs directly from china with good results as well. These lighthouse guys have some nice stuff and good pricing, domestic shipping so it's fast. China can take 10-15 days.

I've even made my own light buckets with spray-bottle caps, glue them in with E6000. Here's setting up a simple light system, first page of this thread, post 10: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/vaterra-ascender/595466-browneye-jk-unlimited-k5-blazer-build.html

I run a HW1080 so I can switch BEC voltage. My 6V led's are fine at 7.4, but have fried an electronic switch plugged into the receiver. So again, watch your voltage ratings as you choose what to hook to what.

Did a simple plug-in for lights on my Bomber too, these headlights are $5 led lamps from china, they worked out great. Powered off the receiver.
