TRX4 Sport kit

Here's an outside shot. The sun isn't out yet this morning.

That looks great. I originally thought it was a light blue.

I am running the narrow inner fenders on my sport but I used Gorilla tape to form crush panels between the inner fender and body.

Good idea! I instinctively tried to "Like" the post, but, well, we know that button is gone. LOL

I wonder why they didn't make fenders to fit the Sport body.

Are there fenders that dont have the intergrated shock mounts? I did even think about this before I ordered the TRA8072 which is meant to fit the bronco.

Went into my LHS at lunch today. They had the Spor, the New K5 and the 1.9 wraith unboxed on the counter. Spring is looking pretty expensive this year. The k5 might just be too nice. The body is really well done. I think the Sport kit is going to pop my TRX4 cherry.

The Defender inner fenders Traxxas #8018 do not have integrated shock mounts. The Defender inner fenders are pictured in my post above with the Gorilla tape crush panels and attached to the chassis with nylon zip ties.

Good choice! As I am finishing a Sport build I have to say it's been a joy to build. Super high quality.

Having a brand new TRX4 and a 1.9 Wraith in my hands today, the quality difference between the two products was so pronounced. Honestly, as neat as the 1.9 Wraith is, and it really is cool, the Traxxas makes the Axial seem really low end.

Glad to hear how stoked you are On the TRX Jato, Been enjoying your build thread.

Amen! That's what I've been trying to get people to realize for years. Axial products come out of the box very low quality and very low end. I'm looking for Horizon to change that...

Thank you!

So I've been documenting my build, but haven't made a thread yet. Anyways, I ran into a snag at the driveshafts. One of my output drive CVD joints had an abnormally shaped slot for the pin causing it to bind on rotation. Sucks. So 3 out of 4 of the output drives are fine... just this one. I've had this same issue with a Junfac driveshaft CVD joint part before, and they replaced the joint for me no issues. Hopefully I can get a replacement for the Traxxas one soon. My build is halted for now, as I don't want to go out of order for documentation purposes.

That sucks. I had good experiences with Traxxas customer service. They will replace the part.

Ok, I'm floored by Traxxas customer service. I called them up. Told them what kit I bought and what part number was defective. They asked me for my address and said the replacement will be on its way!

Here's the issue I'm having.

So the slots are cut at an angle instead of straight up and down. To make matters worse... the other side has the slot cut at an angle as well. So looking from one side only... one side is / and the backside slot looks like \. Both should be | and |. This causes the cvd pin to bind on rotation of the shaft.

I've had great luck with Traxxas customer service as well. My one friend, that is no longer into RC, had the same experience.

Just got to this step in my build today, and discovered the same issue with the slots in the CVD not being parallel. My drive shaft really binds up badly. I guess I will call Traxxas and see if I can get a replacement part.

So I opened my bag of driveline parts and put them all together. Out of the four pivot balls one has this cross-legged hole thing going on. I had a rat-tail jewelers file that goes much smaller than the pin slot so I just filed it out a bit and smoothed out the outside of the ball and assembled it - works smooth as silk.
If it goes rum-rum-rum when I run it I'll know where it's coming from. ;-)

BTW, these are cleaner assemblies than the vattera one, but just a shade. The outer covers are much simpler than ascenders springs or differential sockets. Nice setup with cross-pined attachment to the transmission shafts. "thumbsup"

I'd call up Traxxas anyway and get your replacement. It was really quick and no questions asked other than what part, and what's your address.
