venom creeper a good crawler?

could the venom creeper compete with a axial, and what are the best mods for the creeper to compete with a pro comp axial ax10 or pro comp xr10

Its not as easy as that.....a stock Creeper will out crawl a stock AX10....we've seen it happen time and time again...but that goes back to driver vs. driver too....there are variables to consider.

When you say "pro comp ax10" are you meaning a Pro Class rig built with dig and all the mods or ? Cuz heres the thing....if the Creeper has the mods I recommend and is built to match the class then yes you will compete pretty evenly and in some cases better than these other rigs...but again it comes back to driver skill....the worst driver in the world wont compete well with even the top built rig on the planet while the best driver will out crawl everyone even with the not so good crawler. Its about modifying the rig to make it competitve but its also about learning your rig and what it can do and how to drive it. THis is an age old question going back to RC10 days..."Will I be able to compete with this thing?" My first response to the question is "NO!"....not until you learn its abilities and inabilities. You have to know how much flex it has, how much roll over angle it has, where its tip over angle is, how veritcle it will climb and descend, how much sidehill will it do, how sensative is the throttle settings and how much reserve power do you have, do you run dig for a Pro Class rig or do you run Sportsman? These are all questions you have to answer on your own by spending hours with your rig practicing. I advise anyone to spend time crawling Sportsman Class first...it teaches you to crawl better...because you dont have the crutch of the dig.

My rig competes successsfully against AX's and others all the time...Ive won many comps with it...but I know my rig too. I still run Sportsman class because I just enjoy the class and the less stressful attitudes in the class. A coupl eof Pro Class drivers I know have begun running Sportsman rigs due to the same reasoning.

what are the mods that you recommend? i am already thinking about getting the dig unit for it and i will probly run 6oz. each in the front tires and 3oz. each in the rear tires, also have a cc sidewinder sv2, hitec hs 625mg servo, and a novak 55t motor ready to go in when i decide to get the truck

dude its in the fourms you just have to look we all started at some point on here and looked for our answers theirs lots of pics on the link I sent you just look and check it out read too. im not bashing you bro but I took a lot of time to do my homework,,,,, its a hobby thats what you do in a hobby figure things out mod stuff on your own ect.... all the tips are their in the link just read and go for it"thumbsup" start a a build thraead then ask as you go on their

could i get somthing more simply, simply mods that dont cost anything and really make a difference, would also like to have pictures or just a small list of mods and adjustments to the upper and lower links and the shocks to make a big difference

Ok bro this is your last freebie from me...from here on youll have to pay some dues in the form of research (reading)...what Im about to tell you completely depends on your skill set and available tools/equipment/supplies.

Mods you can do to a stock Creeper....

Make your own rear axle plate.DO NOT use plastic for the plate. Raise and seperate the rear upper links at the rear axle. Spread the front upper links at the front axle.
Redo the front steering linkage to be BTA. Or use spacers and rasie the tie rod to the top of the knuckles.
Cut all of the small lugs off of the stock tires.
Add about 5-6oz of weight to each front wheel and about 3oz to each rear wheel.
Install the motor as soon as you have the transmission built form the manual. Do not wait until the later part of the manual. Do not grease the gears in the transmission. RUN them DRY!
Be very careful when you build the shocks. Pay attention to what you are doing.
Do not use the upper chassis plate for the shocks...mount the shocks to the chassis plates as seen in threads where people have them mounted to the chassis.

The best mod you can do is to... your approach to the hobby...research will give you everything you need...READ. If you dont put the time in to learn then youll never learn anything that you need to know.

If there is something in the T&T thread or in my build thread that you dont understand then you need just say so....Im OUT!

q's on this thread,
tech tip 2: going to mod the stock foams or the foams that come with the hb rovers
tech tip 3: could i just use the steel out put yokes
tech tip 4: could i use traxxas big bore shock caps instead of buying new shocks
tech tip 7: could i do a novak 55t brushed with a 15t pinnion instead of a 19t
tech tip 9: would a hitec hs-625mg work
tech tip 10: instead of jb weld or epoxy, would maxicure glue from the hobby store work

trust me, i hate asking questions but i really need this info because i do not know anything on crawling but my dad does,he took a axial scx10 and he put 7oz. in each tire, venom fireball 55t motor, he waterproofed his electronics with clear waterproofing silicone, he took it to the boulder house in johnstown, ohio and did a comp with it, it kept up all night with the guys $1200 comp rigs, anyway i really do hate asking these things to you guys, and i apoligize for that (and my bad spelling:lmao:) i knew nothing about the creeper and now that i do, i am going to talk it over with my dad and hopefully i will order it soon and get my own build thread up. thanks for the info.

If you get Rovers dont mod the foams they are too soft to begin with and dont really fill the Rovers well...try adding a little Creeper foam in with the Rover foams to fill the tires out.

tech tip 3: could i just use the steel out put yokes

You can use the Steel yokes with drive shafts that are meant to use them...you cant use the steel yokes with Creeper drive shafts.

tech tip 4: could i use traxxas big bore shock caps instead of buying new shocks

No...Big Bore shocks are a different diameter...Losi 4" comp shocks are your best all around bet...check Ebay or buy a Green star on here and check the For Sale section.

tech tip 7: could i do a novak 55t brushed with a 15t pinnion instead of a 19t

I would say yes but I know how much torque a 55t motor produces and the 19 tooth brings the wheel speed up and helps to reduce some of the torque from the 55t which can tear gears and axles apart if you push it too hard...at a minimum Id say a 17 tooth pinion.

tech tip 9: would a hitec hs-625mg work

It will be fine until you get on the rocks. 94 oz of torque is not nearly enough for crawling you need 300-400+ in/oz of servo torque. A Hitec 645 mg would be better but its still too light for any real crawling. Again look on Ebay or the F/S section.

tech tip 10: instead of jb weld or epoxy, would maxicure glue from the hobby store work

NO....JB Weld is a metal based epoxy...it needs 24 hours to completely cure and will hold...there isnt any other kind of "glue" that will hold.

How old are you bro? Something you dont yet understand is this...we dont mind answering questions and helping people....but you need to take the first step....and you say you dont know anything about crawling but yet you know enough to be here...keep up hte research...Im telling you that if you read youll learn...and if there is something you need clarification on then we'll be there for you...just dont assume that we want to sit around answering the same question over and over again...cna you imagine what the first page of the forum would look like if all of the threads started with..." How good is....?" if you read youll know how good things are...pay attention to how many people use a particular part or whatever...if a lot of people use something then chances are its the best bet.

i am going to talk it over with my dad and hopefully i will order it soon and get my own build thread up. thanks for the info

Bring it on........

oh man, im 14 and trust me ur going to have a big learning curve when u go and read thought all of these build threads and stickys. when i first joined this thread i was cocky as hell about everything (ask RMDW) but now i help every one out and dont post only unless i have info to post.

still up to my dad if i can get the venom creeper, one day he wants me to buy a rtr like a axial or a losi and the next day he says to keep the truck i have and then the next day he says to do whatever i want, idk, i will probly go to the boulder house and ask tom if it is a good buy or should i just keep the truck i got. the truck i got is a hpi crawler king, its alright, for a scaler because i got 250 in it and it still cant keep up with the scx10, i think im going to get the venom creeper, add my motor and electronics, flip the lower links around for more ground clearance, 6oz. in front, 3oz. in rear, permantly lock the front and rear diffs(the washer mod), cut the foams as star shape(works great), and maybe move the battery on the front axle(somehow and somewhere), down the road i will add the dig unit and some hb rovers. sounds pretty good to me,but thats just me, i only have about $150 so i will buy the truck and do some cheap mods

i will tell that to my dad, maybe it will convince him even more, i told him that out of the box it is better than the stock axial ax10, i just counted my money, got $132, just enough to get the venom

perfect bro were here to help you ,,,,wont be sorry"thumbsup"

remember the washer mod will work until you bind up then the 3 prongs on the lock to the carrier will strip out the plastic. jb weld is the way to go seriously until you can aford some lockers from rmdw or venom"thumbsup"

thanks guys, this helps alot, my final question is, will i be able to get stock replacement parts for it from the hobby store, i would hope so since venom is a name brand rc company. almost forgot, should i use my hpi crawler king axles or just keep the venom creeper axles?

It really depends on the hobby shop. my LHS has carried all of 2 parts for them since they came out and havent had any since. See if you can go down to your LHS and if they carry any venom stock or if they will have to order everything. If not TCS and RPP have pretty good selections
