What did you do to/with your Ascender today

Scaler-fab...check 'em out. Good and cheap. They're steel but the paint flakes off. Oh well.

I'm not sure if the stock K5 ascender ones fit or not - I have a couple of those. They're nylon plastic and hold up pretty well.

A few days late, but Jeffery, Walter and Donnie got some new duds, courtesy of Codyboy, aka Ernie....

While this aggression will not stand, the boys are patiently waiting to test out the new legs....

The Scaler Fab sliders are the best I’ve seen, but I don’t want to pay over $40 for them at this time. I have not even received my credit card statement with the truck on it yet!

From the angle of the pic, it may be hard to see, but I am getting tire rub on the panhard bar mount... I have adjusted the endpoints, but that just limits the steering... Thinking I "may" be able to carve out some space and move the panhard bar mounting point up higher and closer to the frame, but before I do, I will let those with more (IE: literally any) experience with suspension geometry chime in... LOL

Hey DJ, I can't see what wheels you have on your truck, but if you could go to a little wider hub, I would do that before you start changing pan hard geometry. JMO."thumbsup"
If you want to try some different widths, I could send you some to try before you lay $$$ for new ones.;-)

hey man, those axles really tie the rigs together ;)

*while we are talking geometry, that bend in the tie rod should be jutting forward, not downward. its to clear the pumpkin at full steering lock. ;)

Yeah I got the tie rod squared away....

Wheels are SSD Beadlock 8 spoke steelies w/ the brake rotor hubs....
Thinking I am going to grab some 3 and 6mm offset hubs to try to see if I can get them to clear the panhard mount....

Getting Chevy zr2 body ready. I liked the Toyota body but it hasn’t held up. Seems like every time I take it out it cracks. I can use my front bumper but it looks like I’m going to have to ditch the rear. It has a molded bumper not sure how it’s going to hold up.

This just came across my desk today...
Protek has updated their compact LiHV packs to 4100mah, up from 3600 for the previous generation.

I have a couple of these...the chief complaint is that some can puff after 30-40 cycles. I have about that on my first one and it's just ever so slightly starting to puff (especially on a hot day), but still working fine, so...

I charge them to 4.3/cell. I'm going to drop that down to 4.25, and my standard lipos to 4.15 for longest life/most cycles. I try to never leave them at higher than storage charge for more than a day. So far I've had good luck with my lipos.

IMO this is the defacto choice for Ascender...YMMV. I've run them for several hours - 2-3 hours at a time - and never run down near 50% - usually they still show 3.85-3.9 volts when I put them on to discharge. I have never had one auto-shut off for low voltage.

AMain has/had them, also losipartshouse.com here in LA. I thought the latter would discount them some, but still $59.99 although free shipping. I guess their 2019 stock just came in.

Strapped my mountain bike lights to my Ascender for some night crawling testing.

Ok, so the light cannon in front of the grille is not very “scale” but it kinda works. LoL

I removed a glued Super Swamper from its wheel. It can be done, but releases a pretty good blast of chemicals

I did not do this today, but I’m considering colour matching the aluminum cage panels on my truck.

I think I'll try it out when I get a chance.

At last someone in the Uk had SDD's rear axle weights. So installed them while it's chucking it down with rain and waiting for my week long cold to go away.

I did something similar but used the original panels to trace and cut out new lexan side panels and painted that, this way they will be the same "sheen" as the cab

That’s a clever method.

I’m going to try covering the panels with some stick on vinyl. I’m only in it for $1.50.

Here is the result. Pretty quick and easy to do.

Finally got around to installing the 6mm spacers I got the other day to see if the tires would stop rubbing on the panhard bar mount... They did stop...

May have gotten away with 3mm, but this gives me more room for the Codyboy Steering to flex its muscle... "thumbsup"
