what do you use to cut lugs off tires?

so, i was sitting here with some free time on my hands and thought id see how difficult it was to remove lugs from a set of flat irons i have. so i grabbed a pair of scissors and tried that. not the greatest. then i whipped out the dremel and put in a etching/cutting type bit, not very good results and it flung rubber everywhere. finally i just got a fresh razor blade out and slowly started removing lugs.


............ that was about 3 hours ago and all i've accomplished is half a tire. this is gonna take freaking forever and in my opinion it looks like crap. i want it to look like it came from the factory, not like i hacked it up.

anyhow, i was just wondering what you guys use to cut your tires. and if you know any way to shorten this process and improve appearance.

this is an old 2.2 ghawg i reduced to 1.9. it ended up not so hot either, but i wanted to get some practice in. it would be ok, but it's soooo stiff i don't see it being a viable crawling tire.

I use the fiber cutoff disks, and I thinks thats what most use. It's pretty quick, but makes a hell of a mess.

fixin to head to lowes here in a bit. will have to look at the dremel section, maybe pickup some discs. and see what kind of sciccors or sidecuts i can find.

i use sidecutters or flush cutters works great "thumbsup" and once you get used to it you will do it pretty quickly

i use a small set of scissors usualy used for fly tying, they have one micro serrated edge on one side and I can get a set of tires cut in about an hour.

Toe-Nail clippers. Easy, clean, and not ground mess from a dremel.

Make sure you get finger or foot nail clippers depending on size needed.

i think the flush cutters would do a better job than side cutters you can even get cudical cutters at your local drugstore and they are the same as flush cutters

i would have never thought of that one. good idea. i can see them working well. might give that a try as well as some of the other suggestions on here.

Dremel tool with cut-off wheel, but this is usually better, faster, cleaner and less likely to slip and cause damage:
