What has rc crawling come too..

I love it when "OG"s give the newbs the works. If i has a dime for every post that said "use the search button" I would be moderately more well off than I am now. What I love more are the folks that post like rain drops. I mean really do these folks need to post on everyones topic? The higher the post count ususaly the more apt the person is to use the above mentioned newb catch all phrase.

I have like many others been into this hobby since I was 11. I am now 35 and I have more toys than ever! Back then kits a good kit cost more than most RTR's today. The rock crawling craze has been the single most exciting aspect in the hobby since the advent of the clod. Which by the way was at one point the hottest thing since sliced bread. But I also think that was what helped the true monster truck lovers realize you could bang them around on the rocks just like the first rock crawlers we were seeing in the offroad mags.

Yes no matter what one or two individuals may say the true OG guys that crawl were all doing the side by side thing with clods long before this site and many others were in existance. Those are the guys that brought the innivation to those old porky clods. The advent of the tube framers and plus 90 deg articulation rigs led to the scale backlash. The tired of the clod guys that said that trucks should look like trucks not moon buggys. I found my fisrt scale crawling links on RCMT. Posted by a fantastic USA1 diehard Dominique Shauntee.

Once I saw those scale jeeps and unimogs that the germans were already modding heavily I was sold. The first crawling topics started appearing folowed shortly by the crawling forum sub sections. Then crawling dedicated sites in rapid succesion. The old XC chassis that lot of us have had and flogged mercelesly was very key and it could be had rtr ! No one was complaining about rtr's back then cause you could keep your race trucks and have this neat bash buggy that you could tear up the flower beds with and have a blast. Can't forget the Jugg it wa also pivital because it reminded us that true trucks had driveshafts!

I still see alot of the names from those MT days now being true innivators for this rock crawling site and many others. I have even seen a few sell out then get back in years later and keep turning out new fresh ideas. The new Axial is a new hinge point for our sport and the new talent that comes with that benifits us all. I have one and LOVE it. I never have in 24 years failed to help a felow RC lover wether it was a newbie that didnt know why he needed a charger to the guys that have been in rc for years and want to get into a new aspect of the RC hobby. Believe it or not after 24 years I still run into true RG OG's that have been at it for 24 years more than me. I still look up to some of those guys and truely appreciate even the smalest nugget of knowledge i can take from conversations with them.

The reason my post count is so low you may ask? I dont need help anymore from 99.99 percent of the people on this and many other sites. I can take care of it myself but the reason I come back is the innovation and the ideas that everyone has on this board and others like it. Newbs and OG's alike. So before you give the newbs the razz remember when you were a newb cause I do!

i may have not been here for long and i got started on this hobby because i love to make stuff! i have been gone for a little while, but im now coming back! one thing i noticed is the lack of custom made things! one off chassis, custom parts, some people even made their own tranny's! people used to build their crawlers from a pile of parts collected from different rc's and misc. now you can buy it in a box! people used to make their own dig's now there is a tranny with a built in dig! Now the mostly used tool in the rc crawling world is your credit cards! i dont meant to bash anyone or anything! i just think rc crawling lost its roots and its purpose! some one made this extension of rc for fun and the love of building something that no one else had!

my .02 cents!"thumbsup"

-marcos- builder not a buyer!

To all of you so-called "OG's" that do nothing but bitch and complain: That's the way to promote your hobby"thumbsup" Make people feel unwelcome on this forum.
As for people asking stupid questions, I was always taught that the only stupid question was the one that wasn't asked. I know it seems to get really stupid when the same question is asked again and again. All ya gotta do is point them in the right direction without making them feel like they're lower than whale crap at the bottom of the sea.
As far as RTR's goes...... Who the hell cares..... get over it. Maybe some people don't have the resources or time to build their own rig from scratch. Does that mean they shouldn't be allowed to crawl? This isn't an exclusive good 'ol boys club..... or is it?
I've lurked around on here for quite awhile before joining and then buying my star to help support this forum. I've looked through build threads and was impressed with the quality of work by some of the other members. To think that the feeling toward the newer members of this forum is "who needs them" is a sad statement about this segment of the hobby.

I am a "noob" on this forum, but you do not know my history. If you can not ask questions and learn more your life is useless. Life is a continual learning curve, if that stops you are dead (or should be). I do not care how good you are, you should be willing to help those that are new. Without the "new" your passion will die. I am a regular on a similar forum and am always willing to help those that know less than I do, how else do we build the sport that we love. Grow up and learn to embrace the sport that you enjoy, that includes teaching the "noobs". Don't be snoty, that only turns off the new comers, as I said before I am new to this forum, not this sport, I will not put this forum on my favorites list due to @#%holes who can not help people that are starting where they did x number of years ago. I have gotten lots of help over the years, and still do, and I appreciate every bit of it.

Librarian: Welcome to your local library, you seem lost, may I help you?
Me: I want to build the greatest kite ever.

Librarian: Well, we have lots of books related to kite building. The card catalog should help you in your search.
Me: I don't want to search. Take me to the books.

Librarian: Um, the card catalog will easily assist you in your desire for kite building books.
Me: You see, I am not a big fan of putting effort into anything. I just want to build the greatest kite ever.

Librarian: I guess I can help you with using the card catalog. Are you physically unable to walk to the card catalog yourself?
Me: I can walk just fine. Why would you think I can't? Hurry up, I got a kite to build.

Librarian: Okay, now that we have both walked to the card catalog, let's look up kite building in the reference section.
Me: Hurry up, time is a wasting......................me..........greatest kite ever...........hook it up!!!!

Librarian: Wow, there are lots of books here on kite building, I wonder if we can find a reference to the greatest kite ever.
Me: Only need one reference, me..................and me building it.

Librarian: Well sir, I don't think we will find that, but this one book "The Definitive Book On Building Great Kites," looks like a great start.
Me: Yea okay, go get that.

Librarian: Sir, again, do you have a physical handicap that prevents you from walking? I can guide you to exactly where the book it.
Me: Why are you being so offensive by suggesting that I am retarded??? You are just rude!!!

Librarian: Sir, I meant no offense. I apologize. That book is on aisle 3, about 3/4 of the way down, on the left, near the bottom.
Me: Okay, go get it.

Librarian: Sir, the book is right over on aisle 3, about thirty foot from us, and I have other responsibilities I should be tending to.
Me: Okay, walk me to it.

Librarian: The book is right there sir [pointing to the book].
Me: Where?

Librarian: Right where I am pointing sir. Right about where your left ankle is.
Me: Grab that for me.

Librarian: Of course. Here ya go.
Me: Wow, that is a big book!!! Can you summarize it for me?

Librarian: Honestly sir, I would, but I have never read this book so I can't.
Me: You aren't much help are you? This may be the worst library I have ever been to!!! I will bitch loudly so everyone in this library can hear me!!!

Librarian: Sir, I can't help you build the best kite ever. I can guide you to all the information you should need to build it, but doing the research and actual build will be dependent on you.
Me: Can you read this book to me?

[12 hours later]

Librarian: The end.......................................
Me: I don't have the greatest kite ever in front of me.

Librarian: Of course not sir. You have to actually build it.
Me: Can you build it for me????

Librarian: No sir, I can't. I am a librarian, not your mom or dad! You wanted to build a kite, and I have done everything in my power to help you in your venture.
Me: You didn't do enough! You have worked with me for about 14 hours now, but I look in front of me, and I don't see the greatest kite ever!! Where is my kite??

Librarian: PLEASE DO A LITTLE FOR YOURSELF NEWBIE!!!!!!!

This should be a sticky!!!! "thumbsup" Greatest interpretation ever!!!! And Im a newb!

Nice post Robb. There's just about the same thing going on in a thread in the Newb or Gen section.

"Come on guys, don't make me search. SHOW me what to buy."

"OK, where do I get it and how much?"

That being said, there are people who will help themselves and those who won't. I don't see people who can't help themselves providing a lot of innovation or killer build threads. They don't need harrassment. They will just fade out after a couple months when something else comes along.

The original question should not be a surprise. Go to any forum and look at those who have been around for 3 and 4 years. They've seen most of it and done most of it. Sure they are tired of newb questions because they have seen them 100 times. So it is up to the guys with lower post counts and join dates in the mid range to pass along the medium amount they have learned to these newbs and to keep them in check. That way we are all learning together.

I stopped going to jeepforum.com because there were users with 1,000+ post counts who were complete newbs spouting off the most BS in the TJ tech section and no one correcting them. Just 20 more newbs nodding their heads. This forum doesn't seem to have the same problem, at least the sections I visit.

I don't think the question is about newbs or OG's or any of that bullshit. So many people here seem intoxicated with their long-time status in the hobby and on RCC, and others seem hell bent on being defensive of their newness in the hobby and then bitching about the other side. My thought is that there is a TON of talent and innovation on this board, and there are also a TON of posers who are talentless hacks without manners or common sense. Obviously, like any other group of people, there are good and bad but there seems to be a generally bad attitude around here from BOTH sides. Certainly not everyone adheres to this generally bad attitude, but those that do seem to make it difficult to post, read, research, or even enjoy this board at times.

The real rub as far as I'm concerned is about respect (or lack thereof) for the hobby and it's origins, respect for people's knowledge, abilities, and willingness to help, and also issues about common message board etiquette. My thought is that some people's posts don't even deserve answers. On the flip side of that, there are some people who have been here for long enough they feel like since they don't know a person or their post count is low, they treat those "newbs" like shit. Also, the people that seem to have the worst attitude always seem to have an over-inflated sense of entitlement. Either because they have been around here for a long time, or because they are a spoiled little bastard who's always had everything handed to him.

"OG's" need to realize the "search button" doesn't always return adequate results and just because someone is new HERE doesn't mean they are a lazy 14 year old trust fund twat out to buy everything RTR and ruin it for those who build their own shit from scratch. Those that are like that make it pretty obvious what they are. Those that have the skills and know the ins and outs ALSO make it obvious. I'd say let your work speak for itself. If you're pimping a brand new RTR that's painted black instead of just like the picture on the box, nobody will care. Zero responses should be in order. But, if you build a one off, custom fabricated hybrid crawler out of 3 kits and your momma's dildo, then you'll get your due respect.

Something about RTR's and their impact on the hobby that I don't get. It seems that most of the projects lately use a pre-built chassis, TLT, WK, or Axial axles, pre-built links, a purpose-built transmission, and one of 5-6 "flavor of the month" bodies. The only difference between THOSE builds and an RTR kit is where you get it from and how many boxes from different companies it comes in. It's not completely RTR, but how many different combos can you really come up with that are the least bit interesting? Not many. There are some awesome builds that still push the envelope, but most are just same ol', same ol'. I'd say any new blood in the mix would be good.

I know some of you may discount this post because I have less than 4732 posts, but I'm not new to the hobby or message boards, this board included. These are just my opinions, and of course opinions are just like assholes...everyone has one, and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.

noob shooting himself for the enjoyment of others

the best metal is forged.
The basic smithy contains a forge, also known as a hearth, for heating metals. The forge heats the workpiece to a malleable temperature or to the point where work hardening no longer occurs. The workpiece is transported to and from the forge using tongs. The tongs are also used to hold the workpiece on the smithy's anvil while he/she works it with a hammer. Finally the workpiece is transported to the slack tub, which rapidly cools the workpiece in a large body of water.

clearly the og (smith) class are the driving force in crawling.
take your beatings like adults and hire a shrink.better yet go home and beat who ever failed to raise you to fight . :!:

If you were in the game back in 2003/2004 you should have been a member here. Plain and simple.

The "OG's" are still here.... we just like to kick it and watch the n00bs shoot themselves in the head, ass and feet. 99% of the n00bs make total asses of themselves. I like n00bs......

I bought my first TLT back in '04 and it evolved into several differant builds. But then got burnt out on the lame Tamiya style of engineering
and got into back into nitro (been burning nitro for 30 years).
It took the quality of the AX10 to renew my interest in crawling.
Call me a "newbie" cuase I don't have million posts here on RCC, it's ok, I know better. My R/c roots go clear back into the mid 70's, When some of the members here weren't even born yet.
Just ringing my own bell....."thumbsup"

I think that our hobby is experiencing it's first growing pains. The new kits will be more tailored to our hobby yes, but if you are a big enough dummy to leave your truck as it was bought out of that box...you deserve to get outcrawled at every comp you go to. Also the difference between Noob statis and OG is a long one that requires some experimentaion! I am in that lame area between those two stats. The OG's I feel sorry for you all cause everyone under your level looks up to you and asks you every dumb question we can think of. Noobs? I feel sorry for you because Shiz rolls down hill. Keep working at it, asking questions that are NEW, Cause if I see one more "Should I buy a AX10 or Wheely king" thread I will loose it. Not just because it has been asked before, but after people give you the imput (GOOD IMPUT) you end up choosing the one you had picked out originally anyways.

As Far as the AX10. I own one, and it is pretty close to stock. I slowly adjust it to work with the way I drive. Slow and steady mods make it mine, till one day it will have little Axel left. Is the RTR or the Scorpion type kits the begining of the end? No, I think and many people will discover in coming years as the hobby grows They are just the End of the Begining.

The OG's? you joined in 06. The real OG's joined in 04;-) And more of the big ones are still here building.

I blame the AX10 for all the stupid noobs! Back in 04 everything was different, now all you see is the same cookie cutter GAY rigs.

It only gets worse from here

Yeahhhhh. Wait I joined in april of '05 :flipoff:

Yea i hear ya Carcrafter, One more question about which crawler to buy
or somebody posting their build of their "box stock" AX10 and I could scream in agony. I dig my Ax10 now that I have changed it into something that is truly "one of a kind", and I COULD stand to look at somebody elses that has been modded into something differant than stock.

Well, since I'm clearly a veteran on this forum, my advise is that I and everyone else that posted in here, need a tall glass of STFU juice!

MMMMMM Good.
