What length shocks do you run?

100 mm Traxxas Ultra XXL big bores...
internal 2mm limiters removed.

3 hole pistons with 20 wt oil.

I did clock (rotate) the front axle housing approx. 3-4 mm

I use the Losi 1.8 white springs
that are designed to fit the Losi 4" CO.

My suspension rides at a static droop of approx. 50%
that's 50% up and 50% down travel.

I use a little more preload on the drivers rear CO
to compensate somewhat for the dreaded torque twist.
This would vary as your springs wear and become softer.

yes gravity is an enemy

edit for obligatory vid/pictars... ;-)

......I immediately went to a 100mm shock after stock thinking that it was all about how much articulation you can get. Now I'm thinking that mass amounts of articulation are really just for pictures and don't really help much on the trail. If anything I think it makes the truck loose/wobbly....
...This afternoon I pulled the 100 mm shocks in favor of some AE V2 front shocks (3.25" eye to eye). The limiting straps fit perfect and now I think I'm back around the stock ride height. Still have a decent amount of articulation, but now side to side (pressing on one side of the truck) is much tighter. Not like a boat in in a big swell....if that makes any sense to you all!

I agree flex is good to a point, way too many RTI queens running around lol. I'm running stock Axial 90mm with Traxxas MERV o-ring mod and 30wt oil...bumpstops removed works great but they still leak oil at o-rings. Just installed Proline Scaler shocks 90mm and need to test and tune them. "thumbsup"

I have a honcho with 1.9 iroks. I run 90mm hot racing "scale" shocks. Fronts are tipped back with the stock shock mount and medium springs...back shocks are triangulated with a custom crossmember and soft springs. Works fantastic!! I love these hot racing shocks. Way smoother than stockers and look mostly scale. And less than $40 for a set f & r.
Any pics?

I've always been happy with the stock shocks (no bump stops), mounted at the hole with the most angle on the shocks. Keeps it fairly low and I've never felt the need to have anything longer or shorter.

I've been really happy with my Pro-Line Power Stroke Slash fronts. 98mm, dual-stage and tune-able with prolines spring kits. I've usually run them pretty much straight up but I'm experimenting with a little more angle. I'm currently running the blue (short) and yellow (long) springs on the front and blue/blue on the rear. All the weight is up front and this seems to work well for my driving style.

I agree flex is good to a point,
that point being ?

IMO... articulation (flex?) and proper shock compression rates
should be established to obtain their peak performance capabilities.
But the limiting factors will always be dictated by
the suspension/hardware and it's mechanical geometry.

In other words...
the mechanical geometry will be the limiting factor.
Tho' precise suspension tuning can take advantage of that limit.

A crawler Vs. a speed basher...
would not share the same suspension tuning...
even tho' many will attempt to do so.

way too many RTI queens running around lol.
wutz an RTI ?
my throne is on 'da rocks ;-) Lol

I run stock plastic shocks with 5mm longer rod ends giving me a tad of lift..and stock springs my rig is light and this seems stiff I did remove the stops but they never bottom enough tohit the stops anyway... I plan on trying the softest springs axial has the smaller spring seems to compress great its the stock larger spring seems too stif so im hoping axials super soft springs will put me more into the travel.. im wanting a setup that sits about 50 percentinits travel and uses its travel moreso than the stock setup..as for now with my forward mounted battery setup when I set the truck down the rear does not squat at all and the front not much either..ive thought of getting 100mm shocks but not until I try this softer spring idea.. plus I dont knowmanything about the 100mm shocks springs who knows maybe theyre even stiffer...has anyone tried any of this???

Wraith 100mm shocks, 3-hole disks, DOT4 brake fluid, 1.43# purple springs in the front with the electronics, and 1.04# black in the back. It gets about 1/4 droop.

Not really a designated crawler setup, but all around its decent.

Losi 100mm, no springs, unknown wt oil, and a tiny lift on the front. Massively weighted tires. Beefy drivetrain to handle all the rotating mass.

90mm proline scaler shocks, 45wt oil, shocks mounted in middle hole on shock hoops, stock single rate spring in the rear and some sort of dual rate combo in the front(can't remember) 16lb rig.

I just want to drive up the gnarliest stuff. This is my favorite setup so far. I could use a couple 100 more hours of tuning tho

I installed rear shocks from an AE B4 RTR on my truck about 2 weeks ago and I'm really liking them. The are a few mm longer (3.75 in, I believe) than the stock shocks for extra travel and they don't leak. AE green springs front and black in the rear with 30wt oil and 1 thick preload spacer was perfect for my truck. The upper and lower shock bushings do have to be drilled out to 3mm but that was an easy fix.

$20 for all 4 with springs "thumbsup"
