Whats a good budget servo choice?

Whats a good budget servo that works good on these rigs? My stock servo is still going, but would like a stronger servo than stock. It would be good if it has a 25T horn teeth so I can use my Axial aluminum servo horn, but its not a must. Metal gears though is a must.

Name and link some good ones that you guys have used

I have a Power HD 1214 in my Gelande. It is strong enough to keep my truck pointed in the intended direction and centers reliably. My testing has been limited so far but I am happy with the performance for a $34 servo.

looking for a little cheaper than that. There is many many cheaper servos out there that perform just as good as higher priced ones, just looking for some good high torque ones.

I've been real happy with the 2 solar d772's I have from hobbypartz.com. They were around $50 for the pair.

Hitec 7954 under 80.00 from Power Hobby. 403 oz at 7.4v. You will need a 24T servo horn.

I have been looking for a cheap servo to get the job done. I was using a tower pro 996r and it had enough power, a bit slow but worked ok with 2.2 or 1.9. Till it fell apart. Got about 3 months out of it. Not bad for $7.

I ran across this and it has good reviews, .13 makes it pretty fast and 291oz @6v and its $23

You get what you pay for, I like to pay once and play without breaking. With that said I use Xpert RC WR-7701 servos, brushless, aluminum case, 430 oz torque, metal gears and waterproof.

Hitec or Holmes Hobbies is gonna be my opition of a budget servo with great customer service....and let me add before abother post shows up, yes you do need a bec

I agree with the Solar D772 for 1.9 wheels. Larger than that and they lack the torque to turn the big tires. Even at crazy 9v.
They make a great winch though!
My Holmes hv400 has been in 3 times for repairs. Great servo when it works.
Just sent my Savox 1230sg in for a broken board. Again, great while it was working.

Both the Savox and HH were much better than the Solar. Solar maybe has 200oz/in at best. Not the 400 it claims.

I agree with the you get what you pay for, in this instance. Both the repairs I did were covered under warranty. I've burnt up at least 3 solars and I'm out all that money.

Just my opinion.

I had the same feeling about the Solar. It is a decent servo but there is no way it is actually putting out the rated torque. I had one in my SCX10 at first and replaced it with a Hitec that is rated for 100 oz less and it was noticeably stronger than the Solar.

With that said, the Solar D772 still has enough grunt to keep the wheels pointing in the right direction for most SCX10s.

Make no mistake I don't think d772's are great servos but for under $50 with a castle bec to power it they are decent.

Remember the topic is budget servo not best.

They have titanium gears, 25 tooth spline, 250 oz., and $40. To me this is the perfect servo for a reasonably weighted 1.9 SCX. The description says it's waterproof, but I've never tested that.

I've been real happy with the 2 solar d772's I have from hobbypartz.com. They were around $50 for the pair.

X2. These have worked pretty good for me at around $25. Metal gears, ball bearings and decent torque.

Svavox 1258tg around $50 think its 150-200 oz not Super high but it is super fast with titanium gears works great in the new Rubicon kit I just built. I do have to run the glitch buster for my big oldspektrum RX or it gets a little wonky and glitchy but the buster fixed it

Is a BEC required to run this servo? I am not sure how to wire in a BEC

Any servo rated at a higher voltage than 6.0v will require an external BEC. It's not hard to add one, if you can solder your halfway there.

Yes I can solder. Where does the BEC need to go and what BEC do I need to buy? And is it ok to use a BEC with my stock AE-2 ESC??

A friend of mine told me that instead of using a BEC that I could power the servo straight off my 2s lipo. Just cut the black and red wires going off the servo lead leaving the signal wire and wiring the black and red wire to the battery connector (dean's in my case).

Have any of you done that or seen that done before?

As long as it's a HV servo that wouldn't be a problem. A lot of nitro guys run their servos directly from a small 2s lipo.
