Whats a good budget servo choice?

You can definitely run it off your battery if it is rated for the voltage. My buddy does this in his buggy to keep the weight down so he doesn't have to run a BEC. Just make sure the servo can handle it or it will fry.

A bec weighs nothing, and yes you need one.

No you absolutely DO NOT need a bec when running a high voltage servo direct from a 2s lipo. Read the question that was asked.

If running 2s lipo and a servo that can take the voltage a bec is worthless. If running 3s then yes, a bec is absolutely needed since I have yet to find an esc that can power a servo well.

As long as it's a HV servo that wouldn't be a problem. A lot of nitro guys run their servos directly from a small 2s lipo.

What about this servo that somebody linked earlier? Think it would be fine to wire directly to my 2s lipo?
