I've got one of these trucks, and honestly, for it's price it's pretty capable...but I don't think the axles will last long enough to make wheel mods worth while.

Also, most of the truck is held together by pressed pins and not screws, so pulling it apart has caused me more effort and damage than I cared to enjoy...

A wrap of lead around each wheel, 7-cells, a new paint-job and SNOW!

OK, decided to tear apart the rear axle to shim it up and get some Lucas "Red'n'tacky" stuffed inside..Here's how it went:
  • Popped off the hubs
  • Unscrewed the wheel from the hub
  • Pulled off straight-axle casing...
  • Removed front of case...

Looked thru my nitro clutch shims, but nothing had a big enough inner hole diameter, so I cut a shim from a Mountain Dew can, stuck it to the smooth side of the ring gear, then lubed 'er all up...

Here's a couple of crap cellphone vids of .....
MUDDIN'!!!!!!

I just can't break this thing...I've had the wheels CAKED in thick mud and could SMELL the motor , and all I've done to it is slightly round-off a rear
hex..here's a recent vid:

UPDATE:
(for those interested)

I've been beating the hell out of this thing for WEEKS now, and STILL have not blown any of the driveline ..
I'm not saying it's hobby-grade, but it's damn good for a toy!..I may even sell off my MRC axles to get another one of these...With winter in WI in full bloom, I've started building a modular indoor obstacle system (that's what I tell my wife it is..she calls it something else )..so far I've got some good diff-hanger sections and a potentially shaft-poppin spot of screwed-together 2x4's...I've got an almost unlimited supply of the foundation panels, 2x4 scrap, and 1/8" rubber sheets...just a case or two of spray foam and I'll be set.. (or divorced )

Default fastlane

I got one of these jeeps too and yeah they are pretty sweet after some mods. I am not big into the rc hobby so i dont have parts but i love them and when i saw this i had to have it. ive been running the same electronics it came with for like 6 months...sometimes it takes off on me but its still fun. today i added a 3200uf capacitor which helped quite a bit but im thinking i need more. it definatly runs stronger and when i hit the gas the headlights get brighter. they also stay on when i disconnect the battery.
my only complaint is the tranny is crappy and the high gear quit working soon after purchase. i shimmed the tranny into low gear as well as shimmed the axel gears because it would click and grind when jammed up. now i can run it straight into a wall and it flips or spins all four.

any tips on how to get the wheels off without breaking them and fix the front wheel wobble?

next question is raising the jeep to allow more movement for the suspension a good idea or not? im thinking it would probly tip quicker if it was higher but with the flexible drivetrain, raising the truck is extremely easy.

Yeah use a Philips screw driver. the little lug nut cover things cover the screw, either pop them off or drill them out.

some of the wheel wooble on mine was just loose screws..

I'm doing a lot of mods to this thing, (and some extra axles axles for a derby car project)...I didn't want to keep jackin' this thread, so I started my own here:
Fast Lane dual-motor rock racer

Feel free to post up general talk there as well...
