Here's a quick update on the bed work. I was going to leave the wells like the first pic, as the truck in the vid. but the shocks would have had to have cutouts to fit, so I extended them out a bit so it will look cleaner with them covered... I plan on having the floor of the bed be the mounting point for the rear of the body. Then the rollbar will bolt onto the bed floor into the chassis rails. This should make the body mounts fairly bulletproof. The Cab cage will mount to the three holes along the bottom of the cab below the doors. I will be brazing on some 2-56 bolts for that, along with some .060 or .080 styrene backing for strength. I should be able to get the main roll bar bent up yet today also. Last edited by tjb; 03-24-2008 at 05:38 AM. |

Wow. I haven't really cared much for all the G-wagons, but this one is just amazing. I've been watching it and decided to voice my opinion on it. I really like the drop bed, but what's up with the sides of the inner fenders??? I don't get the little space between the two pieces of styrene.

I'm trying to come as close as I can to the one in the Vid in the first post. It's what is set up on the 1:1. I added the "tubs" to cover the shocks, the updated pics will make it more clear. I'll have more up by weekend

Quick update, the tranny showed up yesterday and the Trail Doc XL's earlier in the week also. I don't think I am sold on the XL's. They look good from the side but have a bit too much of the "pizza cutter" look from the front. I'd like to see about another 1/8" wider. Maybe once things fall more into place on the chassis they won't have that look. I've been getting pounded at work this week, so not much has progessed and the diff on my 1:1 dumped on me yesterday. The Wife was informed tonight that I will be locking myself in the shop Saturday thru Wednesday.

I used a small band saw to make the cuts with the finest toothed blade they make. It is a 7" so had to take the table off of it to get body to fit. For small stuff I use the #409 dremel disks, or the tile cutting bit. The green stuff is Squadron green putty. Great stuff, seems different and a lot darker than used to seeing (20yrs ago.....lol) http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=SQ9050 Last edited by tjb; 03-29-2008 at 05:06 AM. |

Well, after a very long week, time for a real update. I was not really sure the back looked right. I wanted to do some more tube work, but with the back square it looked a bit odd...... Yup curve ball time! I went 3/4" narrower. anything more looked excessive. I'm just finishing up the bed now. With the next 3 days off, I should be able to crank out most of the chassis, and the rest of the major work... Here's a quick shot of the bed progress.. |

Here's a bit of the chassis. After all the tweaking and re-rebending, next time I will mod a pre-made for sure The plate across the front is for the front body mount. I still have the holes to punch for the roll bar mounts and rear bed.... So far it's looking like I will be able to hide most of the motor and tranny with the interior. The battery will mount across the front of the tranny and sit under most of the dash........ More to come. |

Well, I'm going to put the rest of the major chassis work on hold until I get the TLT shocks turned down. I'll be able to play with the battery and interior during the wait. I had a few hours to spare time today, so I cranked out the rollbar/spare tire mount... I'm calling it quits on the tube work now I will be using the plates to mount the rollbar and rear of the body to the chassis, I should have the shocks back in a week or so then soon as the shock mounts are brazed onto the chassis it will be powder coat and paint time |

that is some of the tightest fitting, precisest (is that a word?) tube work i have EVER seen on RCC. nice bro. i would have liked to see it dovetailed in the rear, as it always goes good with an exo i think, style wise. but what you did looks killer too. |
