| Another 1.9" Toyota Rock Truggy
So I ran down to the Auto parts store with the Hybrid this morning to pick up some special order stuff I got for the "Clampy" build.... While driving back to the shop, I took a detour down this back country road, and I saw this Awesome lookin' Yota truggy sitting off the side of the road, on some guys side lot next to his house. It had a "FOR SALE" sign in the window, so Naturally I SLAMMED on the Brakes for a better look..!! Hmmm.....This things built for some serious rocks, and at $5500, for a Vintage Yota Truggy with NO rust here in New England..!!....I gotta have a talk with the owner..!! SO, after talking to the guy for a while, I realized the potential this thing would have ( after a minor re-build) and just KNEW I had to have it... SO.. I offered him $4500 cash, and he said "DEAL"..!! ..I gave him a few bucks as a deposit, and FLEW back to the shop, and grabbed the trailer, and came right back, and the deal was done..!! Here we are all loaded up, headin' back to the shop.....Looks like "Clampy" will have a twin...sort of.. A quick rebuild is in the works, and we'll be on the rocks in NO time..!! Heres the specs "so far"...... * K2-5 Aluminum Chassis * Axial tranny * 55 turn Integy Lathe motor * Locked tlt axles with alum.front knuckles and rear straight axle adapters * Full "droop" suspension setup * 1.9" RC4WD Rock Crushers on Weighted Hilux rims ( for now..) More to come REAL soon.. Stay Tuned..!!! Last edited by 51WillysJeep; 10-04-2008 at 05:08 PM. |

Actually, the shops just a stones throw away, and by locking the Emergency brake down, and also locking it in "Low" gear, It made the unchained trip a mile and 1/2 up the road JUST fine..!! ( Thanks for the concern though..!!!) | |

NICE........ I'm sure finding something like that in New England rust free is just as priceless as finding something like that in Michigan. Grab it while you can because it won't last long. |

Thanks for the comments guys..! Well...Small Update..... the "quick little re-build" I had planned for this thing has turned into "tear the whole damn truck down to the bare framerails and start over from scratch..!!!" Long story short ( sort of..) I originally found a small crack in the front axle case, so I started replacing the guts into a brand new case..,but when I took off the 4 links, the rod ends were ALL chewed up and the threads were starting to strip..., I then noticed that the front 4 link bars were ALL different lengths, which totally screwed up the front end suspension geometry...so I fixed the rods, and those ends got replaced , but then the spur gear on the tranny needed to be replaced because it had 3 bad teeth, which turned into replacing the motor and pinion as well as having to make a NEW custom higher tranny mount, so the new motor would clear the rear 4 link rod ends in the frame..!!! ... Then I didn't like how the body had been mounted, ( too flimsy..) so i started to make new mounts.. but then realized with the droop shock set-up this truck had - the wheel wells got moved WAY forward, and were totally in the wrong place with the suspension at full articulation......SO I am going to change it over to a regular shock set-up...I always thought the wb was a tad long on this truck, so I shortened it about an inch, which in turn made the "custom" lengthened rear driveshaft WAYY too long, and rendered it useless now..!!! GGRRRRR Bottom line is this ones been nothing but a headache so far..- BUT I think I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.... LOL..!! |

I always dig your builds and these are on the top of the list. I've been thinking about building a K2-5 truggy for a while and your's looks great. I know it's not as scale as the OEM bruiser frame but it looks pretty good for what it is. I would love to see more images....Just a little something for insperation Great work! |

| LOL- Thanks, Not to fear, Once I actually get it up and running, and performing sweet, THEN I will hit it with the details..!! It will still basically look the same with some minor/major scale mods.. Quote:
