Default MFF Campbell Rock Racer

This rock racer inspired buggy will be the rig that gets towed behind the MBA Tundra Tow Rig. Chris (a.k.a. ecoli) from Metal Fume Fabrication builts a awesome little 1.9 Campbell rock buggy chassis and his craftsmanship is top-notch, I'm stoked to built it up into a rock basher!

First I took the TLT axles from the Loco FJ which had CVD's, axle-C's and MSD lockouts.

For the front suspenesion I started by replacing the RCP upper link mount with a hand built Delrin unit, the mount lets me have longer upper links which will make sure the axle doesn't roll backon it self.

With 90mm RC4WD shocks, here is the full stuff position:

I wanted the front shocks vertical at full stuff but settled for vertical at full droop:

:

The wheel base will be around 10.25" inches so to get the rear shock angle I needed new shock mounts, besides the TLT plate on the rear just dosn't look clean so some tube will be out soon. Also a skid plate in the back ground:

Before I make the rear link mount a quick front and rear mock up

I also threw in the axial trans and drive shafts to check the fit.

I ended up having to make a trans spacer out of 1/4" Delrin to get the 19t Orion motor to clear the chassis.

more soon...

Looks good. I realized I forgot to tell you for this one you'd need to put in the spacer to raise the tranny a bit, but it looks like you figured it out on your own ! Tranny/motor was a tight fit, wasn't it?

What wheels/tires are you planning on running?

Rocksolo: reason for TLTs is likely the fact that they're a bit narrower than Axial axles (plus he had them available!) so generally more suitable for 1.9 frames. If you're running Axial axles with this frame, you'd likely want to go with wheels with a lot of backspacing to them to bring them in closer. There's enough options out there now that it's really a matter of personal preference.

Thanks man, IMO 1.9's with TLT's look the most scale due to the width, ecoli hit it right on the head...

Word on the tight fit, nice engineering! Looks like 100 thou clearance on each side!

For wheels and tires right now just some 1.9 Flat Irons on black Axial beadlocks but would love to get some Walker Evan's wheels...

Did some work on the rear link mount, used some 3/4" x 1/4" bar stock, 3/16" tubing along with 1/8 rod.

Here it is mid assembly:

Finished and mounted:

Rear suspension full stuff:

full droop:

side view with wheels and tires, i think the stance looks pretty good:

front:

rear:

this weekend I'll paint the chassis, link mount and panels. also try to get the electronics in it

Thanks, I have a trick up my sleeve for the electronics, just picked up this "trick" yesterday. I want to paint the chassis and cut out the side panels today so might be able to mount stuff tonight

Yeah I noticed that same thing thats why I'm super glad ecoli is making both a 2.2 and 1.9 version of this chassis. I think he did his homeowrk with the proprotioning of this chassis to std 1.9 tires!

How are those shocks working out for you? My buddy has a set that sticks until you cycle the shocks and for the record every set that I have got my hands on have stuck. I was just curious to know what you have done/if anything to combat this issue?
