| '98 F150 SVT w/full pan, rails and fenders
The quicklist:
So what to build with an old one of these......... This not quite 'classic' and not exactly 'new' body style F150 borrowed off a freebie Nikko. But with (sorry there are some awesome CC01's rolling their headlights now)...some solid TLTs under it |

| CC01 Chassis
The CC01 fits under the F150 body very nicely length-wise, but is a little narrow for close out the fenders, so I resulted to doing this...... Sorry, I'm the but the destroying part of the thread is over, now the build up can begin. I thought about only removing the front dif area and IFS mounts, but it left a very uneven area near the stock transmission. Plus space was needed to drop the driveshafts through. Although the hood does not open on this body, I can envision an oil pan in 'engine red' showing it's face in the part of that opening. Last edited by sweli; 09-20-2010 at 09:10 PM. |

| X-trail Rails
The X-trail rails actually fit inside the formed plastic rails of the CC01 chassis. May be hard to see in the pic, but I bent the rails right behind the front shock hoops and behind the rear upper link mounts. So the pan area is wide, and up over both front and rear axle narrow up. |

| Rat Shack Box
Also started sizing up a block of black acetal to machine up for the skid and R2 mount. I thought I had waterproofed the electronics pretty well on my JK, but found that water was getting in the channel pots on my Novak Synth Rx. I 'conformal-coated' all my electronics at work (automotive electronics supplier), but cannot coat over those pots, or they will not move again. So I fabbed up a couple RatShack project boxes with RTV blue. One for the JK and one for this build. RTV blue around the lid fairly thick, let dry, shave at a 30deg angle with a razor blade. Dab of RTV around the screw flats, and around all wire holes. On this rig, the Rx and BEC will live in here. |

| Skid and R2D mount
Machined from scrap Acetal (generic Delrin). Top: Bottom: With R2D: I realize this raises the COG with motor up, but was after the feeling of a transfer case without the cost. Might rethink this later. |

Skid and rails into split CC01 chassis pan.... top view: The fenders on the inner semi-dropped bed of the body are not quite large enough to fit around the CC01 fenders and x-trail raisl, so I trimmed the top row of shock mounts off the rear of the x-trail rails so the body can be as low as possible. bottom view: Last edited by sweli; 09-25-2010 at 07:59 PM. |

Interesting that the x-trail rails pretty much fit, shock hoop to shock hoop in orientation with the CC01 mounting points, when bent to fit in the CC01 rail slots. The front is not trimmed, but the back has 1/4" trimmed, and still does extend beyond the rear of the CC01 pan. |

I'm liking where this is going. Looks like a lot of thought is going into it.

Thanks for the comments!! Links are delrin with through-holes for a scale look. For right now, front links attached to two stub frame rails, with matching through-holes. These stub rails line up with where the rear links attach to provide some forward protection to the mounts. Front upper links attach to the xtrail rails. Rear upper and lower links attach to the stock CC01 tub mounts. Sideview (with some early styrene work to cover battery opening): Closeup: Underside: Topside: |

I'll keep progressing with it, but will eventually redo the skid/trans mount. It needs to drop down at least another 1/4". Then I could do away with the frame rail stubs and mount the front links directly to the skid as well. The shocks are old buggy shocks I got in trade a long time ago. I think in stock form they are 90mm and 100mm. The wheels do not bottom out in the fenders, but rather hard stop 3/8 - 1/2" before. I think some RC4WD 80mm, set soft so ride height puts them to 70mm would be better. Before I drop the coin on those and shelve these, I need to see it roll on some rocks. I cut holes in the CC01 fender to allow the shock links to get the highest xtrail hoop holes. The mounted them through the skirts directly to the xtrail, with nylon spacers. |

Now this is a true SAS CC. Looks like a nice start. Can't wait to see what you make of it.

| Styrene work
With the CC01 chassis spread apart it needs a bit more filler then bondo can handle, so in comes the styrene. Started by cutting more of the center away in the rear and dropped the 2x3 Rat-shack project box in place and glued it. 0.020 strips on the bottom of it help match it to the CC01 pan detail. Then the gap right behind the transmission got the tunnel treatment. Curved some 0.080 around some copper tubing with a heat gun, then trimmed to fit. Behind that is a curved piece that transitions from that to half-way up on the project box. This section also got a thin 0.020 strip to help match it. I know the project box is too big to be considered a gas tank, but is has that slight look to it. |

| Proline PL-C
I had not seen that Proline came out with a floorpan for builds. Has anyone used it yet? 040 lexan for the SCX. Crap, would have been easier then my build...... but not as much fun |

Lexan will never be as good as the real thing. Cant wait to see more and get my CC01 in and get started in it. This thread is like a great move, Holds your interest from start to very sudden stop! Keep up the great work man. |

Thanks 'bent'! I really appreciate the feedback. My JK pulled a couple teeth off the front axle TLT ring and pinion, so had to spend last night rebuilding that tho have other rigs to run. Back to this one in the next day or so. |

Make sure to shim the new TLT ring and pinion with a small washer. This will help keep it from stripping again. You probably already know this but just in case you dont. Nice work with the CC.

Thx Killa-cotton. Yup, Learned that a few rigs ago. I run all TLTs now. I got my JK as a roller with the axles under it already. So I let my kids run it this summer til they died. Actually just used my last two shims to get this one meshed correctly. |
