Default RC4WD Alternatives

Looking for alternatives to RC4WD 1.9s. I like their stuff, but don't want to drop $50 on doughnuts and then more on wheels. I've got the stock Tamiya garbage tires right now and know they're pretty useless.

These are going on a cc-01 Unimog, btw.

I assume your talking about tires by a manufacturer other than rc4wd?

here are a couple that are popular:

-Pit Bull 1.9 Rock Beast
-Proline 1.9 SuperSwamper TSL SX

rc4wd makes great tires at reasonable prices. I don't understand what your trying to accomplish.

A decent set of tires will cost you $40-60 no matter where you buy them. Unless you just be patient and watch the classifieds.

I have a set of 1.9 Super Swampers, and we crawl primarily on granite where we are but they hook up great, even on smooth rocks they do well. Very happy with them. You may need to do something with the foams if you have a heavy rig because the sidewalls will roll a lot when you're driving sidehill.

I'd like to try the Pit Bulls sometime, I've heard they're good too.

look on ebay there is some cheap 1.9 tires on there that are not rc4wd.
Land Rover Defender 1.9" tires set with inserts Tamiya | eBay

these would fit your cc-01 chassis very well and not strain the drive train.

Any good scaler tires will run you 50$-60$ regardless of where you get them. Unless you check classifieds here.

Just discovered the classifieds here. Great stuff!

What I'm trying to accomplish is building a fun, not serious, crawler on the cheap. I've owned high buck rigs already. Now I have a CC-01 because it's simple and there's a bunch of stuff you can do to it without having to buy loads of parts to do it.

With that in mind, I've started shopping for decent cheap tires. I know they're out there. How about Losi MRC 1.9s or IMEX premounts?

You could run the Tamiya Highlift Rock Cruiser tires. You can probably get a set of 4 for like $10.. I think they are around that price on TowerHobbies new.

If you just want decent cheap 1.9 tires.. get something that pops up in the classifieds, rc4wd or not.

Losi mini crawler tires are currently in the lead. The classified section has some great deals, though.

Just want to be sure not to go too tall or wide. If I do, however, Pantablo's tire modification vids are great.

I have a set of brand new MRC tires off a MRC Pro kit if interested. $20 plus shipping if you want them. I have mounted them on RC4WD Pro 10 wheels for mock up, never ran them (wheels not included).

Let me know,
Dean

Grab up someones Flat Irons from the classifieds. They handle just fine on a rig like that. They get better with age.
There are various threads on here on how to trim them up to look better or grab more.

Hang on to those tires, Dean. It'll be a while before I buy yet. Really great offer, though. Thank you.

I had considered Flatirons, as there are tons around and they're cheap (and chop-able).

My son's rig has stock flat irons on it. once they were a little broken in they seemed to get better. His truck climbs really well with them.

Dang. Went to the hobby shop to buy a few small things and the temptation of the rc4wd tires was too much. Got some Prowler XS 1.9s. Oops!
